Jimmy isn't some great equalizer. Zeitgeist was mediocre even with Jimmy. The drumming was good, but the songs and production weren't.

Billy/Jimmy/Jeff Schroeder = Smashing Jeffkins
Billy/Jimmy/James = Smashing Pumpkins

Billy+Jimmy = Smashing Pumpkins - that's it.

he's playing a tour - that's good enough for excitement in my book.
A bunch of people who never got a chance to hear SP songs live with JC now have a chance. all these speculations about future releases seem pointless.

I seem to remember some of those 2006 shows got a good response, Jimmy was killing it, BC and JC seemed rejuvenated. If they can get some of that spark back again after taking a breather from each other for a few years, good enough for me. Never saw any other incarnation of the band other than the Oceania lineup; this is probably as good as it's going to get.

I'm just there to see him play, finally. Don't really care whether or not he can make any of the MTAE songs sound good. If he does, great. If not, I hardly think he can make them worse.

Jimmy isn't going to make the Monuments songs sound heaps better. Tommy Lee did a great job and his style was perfect for the record. I feel like I'm alone in this, but Zeitgeist/American Gothic sounded like Jimmy on autopilot. It was just such an uninspired period for everyone. And part of that was Billy having Yimmy as a crutch.

I could literally hear the album being held back by his simplistic parts

In regards to jim:

Quote:
I think it wore me out. When Billy [Corgan] and I got back together as The Smashing Pumpkins to do Zeitgeist in 2007, it’d been seven years since our last record. During that time I’d done lots of other things, including my own record as the The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. When I got back into trying to play Pumpkins music, I found I didn’t make the same choices, musically, that I used to. I had to go back and listen to a lot of songs and almost relearn how to play like that again, because I felt as a musician I’d moved on. My relationship with music just became really awkward. Every time I’d go into my studio to play, I’d be thinking, ‘what am I doing here? Was that just an intro to the next hit song? Am I writing here?’ There was always an agenda. So I just stopped playing. I had to stop. But there’s stuff I hear on records where I just cringe.
Hopefully he approaches it differently this time

true that. On another note, Rush is touring this summer as well and strong rumors are its their last one. They have too much class to announce a farewell tour, so...it could very well be.

guess my dream of a Jimmy SP opening for Rush will never come about. But then I could see both bands this summer. mehhh...

It happened before, and we got machina, Mary star of the sea, d.i.a. and Zeitgeist.

I'm not saying I'm not happy Jimmy's back. I'm just saying we won't get great albums if Billy, and only Billy, doesn't write brilliant music anymore.
All those albums are worlds better than the ones we got after. Even re-listening to FOL and Glow make me realize that those songs are much better than any of the Byrne era shit.

I think if Billy took the MTAE sensibilities with Jimmy behind the kit that it would definitely equate to something special.

Either way, I'm actually excited about an SP tour for the first time in quite some time. It feels good boys

Dad's BB1200S. Dad's slinging height. dad's songs. I bet Hooky wasn't around much when he was a kid. looks just the fuck like him too except it took like 20 more years before hooky got that fat.

She never had good chemistry with Billy/SP.

It would be cool if Ginger came back.

Billy mentioned on Periscope that he'll start rehearsing with Jimmy on Monday.

She was a way better choice than Ginger, she had everything a skiing plonking bassist needs to have, and wrote great bass lines on Oceania. Billy, Nicole, Jeff, Jimmy would be an amazing band.

I'm looking forward to hear him play with SP. I loved Mark Stoermer but since he's back to playing with The Killers, Bates might fit in just fine.

in case we'll see some periscoping of the rehearsals with JC - anybody plan to rip those and maybe upload it to youtube?

LOOKING AT YOU, fat elvis.

Has anyone actually found out how to rip Periscope clips? Is there an iPhone app for that?

Elvis obviously found a decent way. I don't use periscope on phone, only desktop.
since by now you can replay periscope also on desktop it's more convenient than staring
at videos on my cell phone.

but so far the addons I use to rip flash or embedded videos aren't working too well with periscope.

I mean if someone points me to the best desktop option to dl from periscope, I'll dl and youtube any JC we might see myself.

Actually you can rip them off of the web because there is 24 hour webplay back for periscope now. I think you can record with quicktime.

You can record with quicktime on Mac, won't work with PCs though.
