Default Let’s talk about Failure (ilikeplanets I’m looking at you)

They’re doing their first three albums in full. Have tickets to fantastic planet. Will be buying for the other two. Such an under appreciated band.

Pro catastrophe and frogs are two of my favorite songs of all time.

I still haven't listened to the reunion stuff, but you pretty much cannot go wrong with their original run.

What is the absolute best of the newer material?

Heart is a monster and in the future etc are both perfect.

Might be worth mentioning that the Year of the Rabbit self-titled is also close enough that it may as well have been what they did after Fantastic Planet.

I saw the Fantastic Planet set a few years ago. It was a bit of a dramatic story for me, since I forgot to account for a time zone change (stupid) but luckily they were pretty late at starting and I didn't miss a single note.

I would LOVE LOVE to see Magnified, but it's probably not in the cards. Frogs and Bernie are top tier, and Small Crimes is my favorite Failure song. So creepy. So guttural. What a fade out. Failure has the best ending tracks of any space rock band.

Do you like the new stuff? I think In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind (what a title) was more of a return to form than The Heart Is A Monster, and I prefer the track sequence and vocals. Both are great.

Kellii Scott is so fucking nice, he handed me his drum stick after The Heart Is A Monster tour because he watched Greg's guitar pick fly right through my hands. Now he occasionally likes my stupid Facebook statuses. And speaking of Facebook, it was satisfying to watch Ken pop off at malpractice by Pledgemusic.

They are probably my favorite band.

Honestly, the new stuff doesn't have quite the same impact. They were in a pretty distinct mental place during those times. But it's still solid on vocals (and features more of Greg), instruments, and production. They even experiment a little more...Mulholland Drive is basically a Beatles song. I can't really cherry pick a best song, because the flow is pretty important. The remakes of the older tracks are well done. The most recent album is particularly awesome, but they are both worth checking out and do have some nostalgic feels.

I think Year Of The Rabbit is a lot more straightforward rock than Failure. Their major theme, at least in my interpretation, is far more about people, relationships, and love whereas Failure is about drugs, fear, confusion, and isolation. I like the band ON just a little more, they're super poppy and fun and an example of tasteful electronic incorporation.

I feel baited. I'm always totally ready to talk about Failure and any Ken Andrews band. Thread is a tease, but I can continue to monologue.

Counterfeit Sky and Distorted Fields are probably my two favorites from the new ones. Unbelievable imo

Somehow Kelli Scott wishes my husband a happy birthday every year on Facebook? And also acknowledged him when he yelled “Kelli fucking Scott” when we saw them
At jbtv (which was also very cool)

The last album was incredible. Also loved Year of the Rabbit's album. Anything Ken Andrews does is gold.

He's so talented. He probably has one of my favorite singing voices ever. Perfect amount of raspy and airy. Dunno how he can sing with such emotion but every song moves me. And I also think he's a solid lyricist. The lyrics are vague enough to allow you to color them with your own meaning, but obviously very personal to him. Just so good <3

I've tried so many times to get into em. I just love Hum so much and they're always the other band mentioned. Can't do it.
