I know I post in this thread a lot but I really do encourage people to listen to this album one time.

So you will all laugh but this is the most new music I’ve listened to and enjoyed in a single year in a long time

Sleater-Kinney
Ride
Taylor Swift
Tool
Jimmy Eat World

That’s a lot for me lol

Who's laughing? I think there were about a half dozen albums that made lasting impressions on me this year, but also I'm probably just getting old/tuning out a lot of it. Really enjoyed new Beck, Jenny Lewis, Baroness, New Pornographers, Mountain Goats and a few others I'm sure I'm missing.

New JEW, 3eb and Pixies scratched their respective itches, even if I didn't love them fully.

I think it's ok to reach a point you can just admit you're not keeping up on all the hot new stuff. Both because you're incapable/too tired and just don't care to.

I just feel like a lot of people find stuff every week and I’m like who has the time (I have the time because of my commute but)

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm 35, and that's when I'm told we start losing the energy/desire to try new things. I'm slipping into my age like an old man into a bath. No fucks given. If new things hit me, I'm open to it, but I'm not trying to keep up. I read Stereogum on occasion and the sheer volume of shit I've never heard of is staggering. Meanwhile, I've got literal shelves full of music from many artists who are still active, so I'm not exactly hungry for more.

Plus a lotta the new shits is basically all these baby artists out here doing cosplay of their favorites, and it’s just like wow i dunno if these new sounds are really for me, like am i gonna be enriched by the lyrical expressions of this 20 something about their sexy 20 something experiences of being young and sexy? Probably not; i need music about being old and tired but also still kinda high

It’s why ive had the 2nd to last war on drugs album in my car for years. It’s just like a nice warm bath of sounds for my aching broken old man body

I'm honestly a little suspicious of people my age trying to keep up with the kids.

Speaking of yeahs x3, that Karen O/Dangermouse album is pretty sexy. I forgot that came out this year.

Also, new Chromatics.

I try pretty hard not to draw a line in the sand and go "Ah, none of this new shit is for me". I'll check out whatever new stuff seems like it might be up my alley, but I'm not out there every day listening to the hottest new acts.

On the subject of recent acts, I'd be a lot more excited for new Chromatics if all the stories about Dear Tommy didn't seem like a completely orchestrated load of bullshit (that sounds very similar to the history behind Prince's Black Album) to generate interest in a 'lost album' and if the concert I attended wasn't the biggest load of pretentious garbage that sounded like absolute dogshit.

At least the vinyl was cheap. I'll check out the new stuff soonish.
