I'd rather not do cocaine. But if it's going around I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to try it just so I know what it's like.

So, being unaware of everything post White Pony, I should dig into S/T and Koi next?

Koi first. Self titled has some fantastic songs (there is a drum fill in Minerva that gives me literal chills) but it’s not as perfect.

it's not my favorite but man does it have some of their best-ever songs

Hole, Beware, Combat, Kimdracula are way up their in my best Deftone tracks list

but yeah it does kinda lull in the middle, admittedly

The thing about anal sex in the middle is a seriously odd choice

yeah that's definitely a "one & done" segment, lol. some people really, really hate that track just cos of that outro - but hey, there's always the clean version!

Yeah, man. This.

That screaming on that song is unreal. That song is like "Cherub Rock" levels of opener quality. The album isn't my favorite by a longshot, but man - that thing and Minerva alone make the album a worthy buy.

Saw Deftones at the Vancouver stop on the Summersault tour in 2000 across Canada. Perfect Circle was supposed to play but had to cancel, but Maynard was there - so he came out and they did Passenger together. One of those "holy shit what was that?!?" moments.

I got White Pony during my freshman year of college - the red limited edition one - having only ever really heard "Change". Was one of my 'out on a limb here but I'm at Circuit City and want a new album' purchases. There's a LOT to be said for the drum and guitar tones on that album: one of my favorite albums from a production standpoint for sure. Such warm drums, with that puppy on discman with a good pair of headphones was a very unique listening experience all over college campus all the time.

Went forward with them at that point - but nothing hit White Pony levels of high. Bought s/t, enjoyed - bought SNW and it did very little for me, sadly. Then when Diamond Eyes came out, I scored a free copy and figured to give it a real shot. After just a few listens, it grew on me big time. Would say that one comes in second place for me, handily.

I've got both Gore and Koi, but haven't given either nearly enough time to really get into them, which I keep feeling like is a bad idea given how much praise they get. This thread is inspiring me to do that.

This one takes the cake for me... didn't realize just how good it was until they re-released it as "Back to School" and cashed in on the nu-metal craze then I realized JUST how good that second to last cut on White Pony is:

OK, one more comment - anybody have White Pony on vinyl that can speak to how it sounds? Looking for the best sounding pressing of it... seems to be a ton of different variants, etc.

I have it but I am by no means an audiophile. Sounds good to me lol. A few years back they were selling basically the whole catalogue as a package so I just pulled the trigger. It did not ******* adrenaline, but I ran across an original pressing of that in Milwaukee last year. P cool.
