Great album. How can anyone actually hate Green Day? Dookie's dope but Insomniac is their jewel, man.

I don't get how you can like a band like the Japandroids, yet outright dismiss an album like Insomniac

That's true. But I don't really pay much attention to their whole new image or whatever. The new music isn't great either, but theres always 2 or 3 good songs on each of their new releases... American idiot had about 4. As a music fan that suffices.

I dunno. I think Green Day holds a special bond in my heart. They were the first band that REALLY got me into music. I was 8 years old and heard Basket Case for the first time and had one of those epiphany moments... Ever since, Musics been my life. I wouldn't have started listening to the radio and discovered SP if it wasn't for Green Day. Obviously Insomniac isn't some fresh album for me. But I can still turn it on after quite some time without listening to it and fully enjoy it. It's the album of theirs that's stood the test of time the most in my opinion. |

I was super into Green Day in freshman/sophomore year of high school and at one point they were my 2nd favorite band behind the Pumpkins, but then they suddenly became boring to me in junior year when I got into Sonic Youth, Pixies, Smiths, etc. It's unoffensive listening and I have nothing against them, but it's been many, many years since I listened to one of their albums

Didn't read past the first few posts but I loved this album and would say it's their best. Brain stew jaded or geekl stink breath whatever was on the Godzilla soundtrack plus the outdo song still gets played on the radio around here.
Hadn't heard it in a really long time tho |

I remember reading a lot about the band during the insomniac period and the album is about him being fucked up real bad on meth. Green days dark drug album.

I remember angus I think. Football high schoolers, main character keeps breaking james van der beeks nose? Something about a prom and some geeky shit, main character is some genius or something? dont remember the end though. im sure he kisses some girl and everyone becomes friends.

i think the test of an album is 'if this came out today would it sound good.'
most of green days albums fit this bill. if they were to release their albums chronologically starting now i think they would be bigger than they were back then. less competition for what they do. |
