do you think eddie was unfair to his father, or are those details pretty obviously embellished.

You have to take into account the sources on that book

They talked to his step father a lot, so the eddie stuff i take with a grain of salt

the way eddie was portrayed in that book just made him look like a fickle brat. mostly in the same ways that i am a fickle brat.

Does anyone hear have Mirrorball? What a great album.

Anyway, if anyone has Neil Young's Greatest Hits you'd know it has Rockin' In The Free World on it from his 1989 album Freedom. Well when you rip the CD onto the computer it comes up as Pearl Jam and Neil Young. I know that can't be right since PJ wasn't even around then and in the liner notes of the album it even says Crazy Horse was Neil's backing band for the song. Any ideas on why it comes up with PJ?

You're absolutely right on the Mirrorball - I'd forgotten how awesome that album is until last week when it was in my car for like 3 days straight. "Big Green Country", "I Am The Ocean"... "Downtown"... man... great stuff there.

As far as why PJ comes up, my uneducated guess would be that an overzealous Pearl Jam fan got to the CDDB before anybody else could.

Incidentally, this has been a really awesome thread. I saw Pearl Jam for the first time last month out in San Diego, after being into the band hardcore since 98 and being a recreational fan like everybody else since before that. At any rate, that show blew my mind completely - how have I missed this band live so many times? While there, I fully realized that they were the best non Pumpkins band I've ever seen live. And while it gently infringes on some of my deep-seated convictions, part of me was left wondering if it was the best concert I've ever been to - even better than the Pumpkins (4.24.99 - the last real show). I'd waited YEARS to see Pearl Jam, and it was fully worth it.

That show put layers upon layers of new meanings to songs for me. I hadn't listend to the studio version of Long Road since then - and now when that first chord on the track rings until it fades... it's different. If you haven't downloaded that show, you need to. The Long Road intro itself is worth the $10.

My lists, though:

Albums:

1.) No Code
2.) Vitalogy
3.) Ten
4.) Riot Act
5.) Pearl Jam
6.) Yield
7.) VS
8.) Binaural

Songs:

Present Tense
Thumbing My Way
Nothingman
In My Tree
Release
Yellow Ledbetter
Life Wasted
Given To Fly
Sad
Footsteps

Phew - that song list was rough duty. The one thing that I would put on there if live stuff was an option would be the Daughter/It's OK from Jones Beach on the Touring Band DVD. That song gives me chills EVERY single time.

Long live Pearl Jam.

10. Black (Remixed Greatest Hits version)
-----
19. Untitled (I'm Still Here) (Unreleased)
-----
25. Foldback (Touring Band 2000 DVD)
---------------------------

First of all - amazing compilation. It flows extremely well, and you're right - it is set up in a way that a live show would be.

Secondly - a few questions. These may be uneducated, but I'm super curious here.

re: Black, etc: Do you think those remastered versions of those Ten-era songs make the RVM compilation worth buying? Do they sound that much better?
edit: I just listened to Black, and I think I may have answered my own question.

Re: Untitled (I'm Still Here) - Where is this from? That is amazingly, amazingly powerful. There isn't much more stuff like this out there for PJ, is there? I know with Pumpkins, there are tons of unreleased songs - but isn't most of the Pearl Jam out there already "out there"?

Re: Foldback - I had forgotten how cool those instrumentals were. Did you just rip the audio off of the Touring Band DVD, or are there better sources of those songs elsewhere?

Again - amazing comp - Thank You. Looking eagerly towards your post.

-adam

Yea, it sucked. For the Yield-era tour, I was still in High School and without transportation. For the next tour, I was up in Utah at school, and they didn't come through SLC on that tour - again, no transportation to get home to see them in California. Then, Riot Act came out 2 weeks before I left to go on a mission for 2 years, during which I of course, missed them one more time.

So, while it does sound ridiculous, it was just a matter of circumstance every single time. I've been a member of Ten Club since '98, but it just never worked out for getting to any of the shows, which was miserable. I think I was as 'hardcore' as situation allowed.

I've been posting here since 1997, though. This is my 2nd name, hence the low post count.

Andrew did not create the boards until 1998, and toward the end of that year.

I'd love to have seen that set.

At the time they weren't rare, but taking into account that 10 years have passed, Red Mosquito, Habit, and Mankind don't get played very often. RM's been on a few sets this year, and the other two not at all, and they've all been played sparingly on the 00 and 03 tours. With Don't Gimme No Lip seeming to have become 'the song that Stone gets to sing', I wouldn't be surprised if Mankind is never played again.

Seeing Sometimes in the middle of the set wouldn't happen now. It's pretty much strictly an opening song these days.

Cherish seeing Who You Are- they may never play it again, and haven't played it since '98, where even then only played it three times that year.

Hunger Strike got a few performances in 03 (usually with Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney singing Cornell's part), but that one is fairly rare, too. They'll likely play this before ever playing Who You Are again, so unlike Nimrod, I think Who You Are is more the treat than Hunger Strike in this case.

First of all - amazing compilation.

Thanks. I actually burned a copy and have it in my car. I'm pretty happy with it as far as mixes go. So it's nice that another fan digs it.

Depends if you like the muddy sound of Ten or a crisper sound. Personally, I prefer the Ten version of Black (in part because the bassline at the very end is still near the forefront, where on the newer version it's buried a bit), but Once and Even Flow get nice upgrades.

It was rumored to have been on a "Japanese Promo' of Lost Dogs (and not on the promo in the eBay auction Nimrod posted), but that's never been confirmed anywhere that I've seen. It'd be all over eBay if it was, too. I'd link you if I remembered where, but I have read that it was a song given to someone close to the band, who leaked it. They weren't supposed to, but they did. The song is a taboo subject on both the Pearl Jam board and even the fan run Red Mosquito board- post about it and it usually gets deleted. No one is even sure what the real title is- 'I'm Still Here' I think was given to it by fans so they knew what was being talked about (like 'Red Dot' on Yield).

I got into PJ not long time ago,I always preferred other seattle bands.my list nowadays:
1.Yield
2.Vitalogy
3.Vs
4.No code
5.Ten
and then the rest...the last one didn't impressed me but it's way better than riot act.

They probably will play Hunger Strike first. The question was "which was the biggest rarity" and on the set HS has been played less than anything else.

Plus it's a much better song than WYA
