An understandable beef would be the selection of debate dates. That did suck but since when did people choose candidates based on debates.

Hillary beat Bernie worse than Barack beat Hillary. Superdelegates didn’t have a hand in either race. But yeah it’s a useless thing to have.

The party is bad and dumb which is why I think it’s laughable anyone would think they’re capable of rigging anything.

The superdelegates are more of a factor in shaping public opinion. CNN and all major media outlets would add superdelegates to Clinton's total count as soon as the Iowa caucus was over, even though they functionally tied there, making Clinton's lead seem insurmountable. What impacts this actually had, if any, is impossible to know. I'm not going to bicker over minutiae - there's plausible deniability and rational explanations in each of these instances. It's more a matter of the primary being structured to prevent outsiders from making any headway. This is something D's and R's are exceedingly efficient at doing.

But even with some of these structural changes going away after 2016, Bernie had no real chance once the centrists dropped out and consolidated around Biden. IIRC Buttigieg didn't drop out until Obama called him the night before Super Tuesday. Whatevs, that's politics. And most importantly, people under 30 just didn't show up. The people who support Bernie by 80+%. The only reason he had a chance in 2016 is people fucking hate Hillary Clinton. We could have had Marxist populism, but the DNC pissed it away to Trump and instead we got stupid populism

Whoever harnesses that populist undercurrent is going to win in 2024

The way I see it, there are 3 types of Trump supporters:

1) people fucked by neoliberalism with a legitimate economic grievance

2) religious fundamentalists who think Trump is ordained by god

3) regular old neocons

Straight-up racists contribute to all 3 of these circles


For now, I'm just glad to not have to worry about the POTUS starting WWIII from his golden crapper at 3AM because someone made fun of him on Twitter. I supposes that's still a possibility until January 21.

But 2024 and beyond is just gonna be a revival of neofascism or neoconservatism unless the Democrats acknowledge group #1 above and make some tough stands against corporate capitalism

Good post. I’m hopeful AOC will primary Kamala in 2024. If the Dems want to win they should get behind AOC. She’s a star and she actually favors policies that will help people and the planet.
