Hum is better than SP. He wouldn't have them.

Yo, Hum is not better. Hum is one of my favorite bands, but dude, SP >>>>> Hum. The only Hum album that's as good as an SP album is Downward Is Heavenward. You'd Prefer An Astronaut comes close.

But, well, SP has way more songs too, so there's that...

Billy should have co headlined with weezer. Weezer fans are loyal despite rivers playing the same set list for a decade now

Hahaha yeah, every show is exactly the same. I was pleasantly surprised when he covered Where Is My Mind, right before they toured with the Pixies.

I don't think there will be an opener.

But! If I have to pick two:

Portugal. The Man
The Joy Formidable

The DeLeos' riffs sound totally stale in the two songs out there now, I expected a bit more since they haven't done a full album in 8 years, but maybe they got rusty. Hope there's some stuff on the new album I like. I saw them 8 times during the 2008-2012 reunion, feel very fortunate that I did. I got lucky and didn't see any of the shows where he was fucked up.

What negative connotation, among hipsters? STP are played on alternative and classic rock radio still every day. Billy penned a very touching tribute to Scott when he passed where he acknowledged that his initial dismissal of STP was totally wrong and that he even apologized to Scott and the DeLeos. STP now, which is a far smaller act without Scott would actually be a very good fit as an opener. There's obviously no way it ever would have happened with Scott alive, it would have had to be a co-headlining tour.

Filter is a band they could probably get super cheap. Live are out there too, could be a fit.
Yeah dude, I feel the same way. I fee like the Deleos' have been stale for awhile now though. I wasn't really impressed with any of the stuff they did with Chester and even the comeback album was a little too classic rock sounding for my tastes (albeit it was a pretty good effort). I wish they'd get back to more of an alternative/ grunge sound.

When I talk about negative connotation with STP I mean all the backlash they faced in the mid 90's. I know that that negativity has pretty much evaporated with the sands of time, but Billy seems to perpetually think it's still the mid 90's so I could see it being something that would still bother him.

Having STP on board would create enormous buzz. Would pretty much assure that the tour wouldn't flop. Would pretty much ensure that any of the on the fence casuals would go and it would be a good way to get the new singers feet wet.

One things for sure, I think if they're gonna play MSG that they're gonna need another heavy hitter on the any chance that SP flies solo for these gigs

D'arcy should join Bearcubbin and open. Just don't tell b0lly before hand, make him think it's some cool trendy current chart runner.

Anyway as long as it's not Ringo Deathstarr again, because they were fucking dreadful when we saw them open, who cares. openers cost $ and BC ain't payin' a cent

I somewhat agree. I like Astronaut better but both that one and Downward are as good as a good SP album. However, the rest of HUM's discography kind of sucks. And about a solid third (maybe a little more) of SP's output also sucks. Their discography is hard as fuck to follow sometimes but overall the ratios are close.

And whaaat?? Ritzy is lip syncing?? Damn it I really like The Joy Formidable

Oh right, it was the TFE tour! Duh. I confused my "mid-00's seeing BC play in Dallas" shows.

Sadly, for some reason, this song "Boy With Stick" was only a b-side for "The Pod," but if you add it at the start of You'd Prefer An Astronaut, it makes a great album even better. They toured recently in 2015 and 2016 and played a couple of new tracks. Hoping we get another Hum album one day.
