Exclamation Record Store Day - April 18, 2009

I already posted this in the vinyl thread but I thought it better to make a thread since not a lot of people post in there. For those of you who have never gone to a record store participating on that day, a lot of cool stuff goes on. Lots of in-store performances, free stuff, exclusive releases and other stuff that is available on that day but is not released for a bit longer everywhere else. The only example of the latter that I know of is the new Wilco DVD but the whole thing is still pretty cool. You can find out if any stores near you are participating by checking out the official site: RECORD STORE DAY - Home

I'm not sure that there are any actual record/music stores in Kansas City proper, besides maybe Streetside.

edit: OK, I see the site has one listed. I've never even heard of it and, even if, none of the "special deals" are worth getting out of bed before 3pm (for work).

Only real draw for the store I usually go to is the Smog guy playing. Other than that, some Bob Dylan listening party with muffins and juice and a few "guest DJs", which I guess is just bands pressing play on their ipods. Maybe spinning the stores merch and then they can sell it like "Buy the record the Pains at being Pure of Heart spun!"

but 10% off is cool.

have you heard that shit yet? surprisingly good considering i find both TMV and Hella to be rather dull and self-indulgent these days.

there are supposed to be some limited 7"s and vinyl released tomorrow.

most notably a 7" with beck doing a cover a sonic youth song and sonic youth doing a cover of a beck song.

then there is some sort of live pavement LP.

hopefully my local record shop has one of the two.

Man. The cool record shop an hour away from here isn't participating. But the hip hop / R&B one is.

I'd want the Beck/Sonic Youth thing.

Too bad my favourite record store isn't participating.

Thumbs up

I picked up the limited Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Whiskeytown 7"s, the latter of which I did not remember reading about on the site. I was tempted to buy the Pavement thing but it was one of the things I put down to make my spending limit.

Sorry, they said they sold out of it. I was up there when they opened this morning and they did not seem to have that many.

teh fetus. Roadrunner had some stuff, but not as much as the fetus did (though by the time I left at 10:30 they were pretty much picked over).

Me or the guy selling it? If his sole intention was to just buy them and flip them before the day is even up, that is sorta dick, but I'm sure the fans want them as much as the guy wants to sell them. It's exclusive, they want it and live in the middle of nowhere, they're gonna have to pay for it some time.

I'd atleast keep a copy for myself.

seriously!
looks like my chances of having a good time are going to dwindle a bit since i'm probably going to be stuck working overnights too. bah! layoffs.
