I think that some kids just want to celebrate both sides of their origins, although the presents are good too. I know that if my family had two religions (I have none, though) I'd celebrate them both, just so I won't hurt their feelings or anything. I mean, if I had a nice, normal family whose feelings I would care about. Diversity is a good thing... I celebrate Christmas, and I'm not Christian or anything. I've been to a Hanukkah party thing because I was invited and I wanted to hang out with my friends.

I make latkes with my mom and light the menora with her.

I decorate the Christmas tree with my dad & sometimes go to midnight mass with him.

it's sad that you believe that cursing at me will sanctify you. must be cool to live in a fatasy world. I don't participate in organized religion. If it helps you, great. But there will always be people that take everything from their faith literally and that is a danger, but it is an unavoidable one, and something that humans have always lived with.
