Exclamation Will The Two Towers movie be better than the first LOTR movie?

I'm not sure. On the one hand, like the first Harry Potter movie, most of the character intros were done in the first movie, so extensive time doesn't need to be devoted to that. On the other hand, there will still be a fair amount of new characters to get acquainted with, and I really don't want to sit through another hour of character introductions, even if it is a bit interesting. Another concern of mine is how well the fight scenes in the movie will be shot. The Battle of the Hornburg has the potential to be one of the greatest battle scenes ever filmed, but considering the Michael Bay-style action shooting of the first film, I have my doubts.

Still, something tells me that the first LOTR movie was just a tantalizing sample of what's to come from Peter Jackson, and that the movies are going to get progressively better, unlike the case of another overblown franchise we're all familiar with.

P.S.: Is the extended DVD of the first movie worth getting?

Bad Taste was great. it's too bad he's not making movies like that any more.

i don't think Lord of the Rings is bad, it's just that any director showing restraint of their own personality could have made it. it was more about sets and cinematography than direction.

and yes, i expect this one to be better than the first.

I thought the first Lord of The Rings movie was pretty damn good..and it's probably going to be very hard to top the first one.. cuz..you know..sequels are aren't as always good as the original..

trilogies aren't sequels.

Men in Black 2 was a sequel. Empire Strikes Back was not.

and Empire Strikes Back was the best Star Wars movie so ha.

Depends on you, really. It's got four commentary tracks. The one by the cast is pretty funny for about halfway through, then it slows down a bit. There's a lot about the technical aspect of it. So if you're interested in that sort of thing, then definitely get it.

I do think TTT will be better than FOTR. As you noted, less character introductions and the new characters we'll meet will be introduced differently, I think. In the middle of a war. More urgency, I'd think. Should be great. I'm really looking forward to it.

I sure do hope it's better.

I don't think you have to worry about how any new character introductions could quite possibly take anything away from the film's mometum. Conflict has already been established in the first film and any new characters in this movie would only help to reinforce it. It's going to be action packed, just like your momma

Yesserie... I sure do! Actually I was one of the viewers who at the end of the first movie screamed out That's it??!! That's all!?!! Son of a bitch!!!! But if the last fighting sequence is any indication of how the new one will be then i'm sure my reaction will be dramatically different from the first.

this includes some spoilage, but only to people who have not read the books.

i think from an adaptation standpoint, the two towers will prove the easiest transition to the screen. so many more little things happen in fellowship, and the characters and backstory had to be established. even with major sections cut out, fellowship seemed rushed through. i see a similar thing happening with return: i doubt they'll even alude to the resolution chapters, let alone include them. two towers has a pretty straightforward series of events, it's not brimming with little meetings of peripheral characters like fellowship, and it doesn't have any major discontinutities in flow like return. the only potential stumbling block (imo) is the two seperate series of events. i haven't read anywhere about it, but does anyone know if the movie will be split half-and-half like the book, or will the two stories be told concurrently? for once i'd have to say jackson would do well not to try and recreate the book (or two books, as it were) exactly as it's written, trying to tell it like the book does would definately require the extensive use of a narrator or time references (like captions, "x days from tol brandir") or something like that.

two towers has the potential to be the empire strikes back of the lotr movie series. it's going to have some potentially great battle sequences, and it has a huge, dark, shocker of an ending.

i think it will be good, and for the "sequel" thing: i don't think that really applies to these movies, since they were more or less shot as one movie. so there's not that much discontinuation as in other movies. i personally will see a nice double feature with FOTR at about 20:30 and TTT starting at 23:59...if i still get tickets for the english screening

from what i´ve read the stories will be told concurrently. but if you look in the tracklisting of the soundtrack, it looks like the movie is going to be like in the book.
so i guess, we will have to wait to see....

I dig LOTR, it has nice direction, AMAZING cinematography, FX, performaces. and is a good epic flick.

but I can't get to one of those "full geek on" modes that I get for other franchises.

my main problem is that LOTR is just SO bloody serious! Its like the flick is screaming at you "We are on a VERY IMPORTANT QUEST with VERY IMPORTANT THINGS and its all very IMPORTANT and DEADLY SERIOUS!". I'm not saying make it an out-and-out comedy or throw in a Jar-Jar Binks or anything, but there's no joy to it all. This is why alot of just casusal people I know who say the flick deemed it "gay". its a movie about tights, wizzards, orcs & goblins and by making it seem so serious and not having fun with it you can't really suspend disbelief. It also kills pacing at points too. and then you just admire the craftsman ship, which still is very good.

I give 'em a solid B. see it once or twice but that's aboot it.

After finally seeing the trailer last night, and having seen FOTR for the first time two weeks prior, I definitely agree. I think the theater expierience added quite a bit to that decision though. I won't wait for TTT to come to DVD, that's for sure.
