Default a girl that goes to my college was found raped and murdered friday morning.

do you think school's should keep this kinda thing hush hush? or should they let the news cover it. as far as i've seen no new channels have broad casted it, and the only way i know is by talking to the hospital administrator's son. i didn't know about the suicides at finals either. yikes.

they shouldn't keep that shit quiet. they should inform other girls about how to protect themselves and shit.

the suicides, though...well...that's no one's business.

Why Cover it. If she should be alive, then they should cover it for a while, because all of the negative attention she should get over her. But now she's dead, it doesn't matter if you cover it or not.

I just finished watching some news clip about Brooke Wilberger. How very sad. I say that they should always release news like this. You never know if its a serial rapist just getting started or not. That way you can walk with firends or have someone meet up with you and shit.

they won't release the girl's name but my friend knows where she lives. she had called 911 but didn't give any other information, and when the police got there they didn't know who to look for and she was gone. i don't know if i could deal with that if i was her parents. gaaaah this is so shocking!
the hospital administrator that i know said this year was the first year they hadn't had any attempts or successful suicides. every other year they'd had 2 atleast. he told me one time there was this girl they had to go pick up who was an accounting major, and when they asked her what her name was all she could say were mathematical formulas and pi was involved i think.
it's so freaky how the school keeps this shit hush hush. i thought everyone was so happy!
i'm so weirded out right now.

They wont shut up about her over here. I'm 40 miles from that university, we've got posters all over campus and people are looking all over the place. It sucks. Personally though, I think they are makign this story so big because they are covering up some stuff our University System's Chacellor, a former governor and mayor of Portland did with a 14 year old girl while he was mayor. There is some crazy stuff going on in thsi state right now -- mafia style.

UM student's body found at Sardis Lake

by Emery Carrington
DM Editor
June 01, 2004

Several law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the suspicious death of Ole Miss student Carnesha R. Nelson, while family and friends continue to remember her as happy and full of life.

"Carnesha was a great young lady," her father, Clinton W. Nelson said. "She was a sweet young lady. Everybody loved her, and I'm not saying it just because of her death."

Moss Point native Nelson's body was found Saturday morning at Sardis Lake on what would have been her 20th birthday.

Alan Thompson with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations said Panola County Sheriff's department would be the primary investigators.

Carnesha Nelson was last seen at The Cove apartments where she had recently moved and would have begun her junior year at the university, according to Nelson.

Nate Downs, a resident of The Cove, said he was woken up early Thursday morning when he heard "bloodcurdling" screams and saw shadows passing his window. Nelson lived directly across from Downs' apartment building.

"A neighbor came out and said a girl was beating on his door saying, 'I've been raped. My car's been stolen,'" Downs said. "I didn't see anything. I heard her screaming 'Stay away from me, you bastard.'"

By the time police arrived, Downs said the source of the screams could not be found.

After Nelson's body was discovered, however, Downs said police came to the apartment complex around 3 p.m. on Saturday and stayed until at least 10 p.m.

They interviewed several residents as well as knocked on doors at Taylor Pointe apartments, which back up to The Cove and Carnesha Nelson's apartment.

Downs gave an affidavit at 4:20 p.m.

Nelson said he talked to his daughter on the night she disappeared.

"She was jubilant as always," Nelson said. "She always had two or three words to say to me, then she was wanting to talk to mama. But then she'd always want the phone handed back to me."

Nelson said his daughter loved her family, Ole Miss and swimming.

"Believe it or not, she could swim like a fish," Nelson said. "She loved the water. That's what was so bad about the way she died."

Nelson said he remembers when his daughter would go out in his boat bass fishing, not necessarily to fish, but just to be with her father.

Carnesha Nelson's mother had just spent two and a half weeks in Oxford helping her daughter move into The Cove apartment.

"She just got that new apartment," Nelson said. "She was so proud of it."

A strip of crime scene tape and evidence markers remain on Carnesha Nelson's door.

Thompson and Panola County officials worked in conjunction with Oxford Police Department as well as the University Police Department over the weekend and will continue to do so. Thompson said Oxford Police Chief Steve Bramlett would be handling media questions.

An Oxford Police Department dispatcher said Bramlett, who was out of town, referred calls to Assistant Police Chief Mike Martin. Due to the Memorial Day holiday, however, Martin will not be available for comment until today.

A Panola County Sheriff's Department dispatcher said investigator Mark Whitten would be taking calls. Also due to the Memorial Day holiday, Whitten was unavailable for comment.

Carnesha Nelson worked at Domino's Pizza in Oxford with Willie Redmond.

"Sometimes you just get tired of coming to work and seeing one person," Redmond said. "I don't think anyone didn't want to see her face. She was so nice to everybody."

Nikki House, program coordinator for the Ole Miss Steps to Success program, said she also remembers the quiet girl coming to the university to major in either biology or business. Their common bond became the Tweety Bird cartoon character.

"She was one of my special students," House said. "I just loved her."

Carnesha Nelson was awarded the Griffin Award for Perseverence through the STS program.

Nelson said he is waiting for his son, 22-year-old Clinton Nelson, who is in the Air Force and stationed in San Antonio, Texas, to arrive on Thursday before funeral arrangements are made. They have been tentatively set in Moss Point for Saturday.

"It'll be easier to understand once we have some more information," Dean of Students Sparky Reardon said.

The University Counseling Center remains available to students coping with the death.

Of course they shouldn't cover up the news. That'd be censorship and that's just retarded to do.

But that would just make people anxious and sad! I propose a paradigm shift in the mass media--one based not on fear but on the inculcated belief that no one ever dies and that, when our time comes, we simply float away in pretty, sparkly bubbles to a green meadow candyland under the Arctic ice shelf.

Whadda ya say? Do you think you could convince your influential cronies in the press, sppunk?

I'll get right on it! I think the color system was meant to be pretty and light-hearted, they just picked the wrong colors to represent the warning levels.

The highest warning should have been a nice baby blue color.
