Question Has anyone ever been to Europe?

I know it's a long-shot, but I'm hoping to go to Europe sometime and I was hoping that maybe someone here has gone and could give me some insight.

Was it expensive?

Where did you go?

What did you do there?

What were some of the most difficult adjustments you had to make?

Was were some of the most enjoyable things?

Did the European sunlight assault your albino skin as badly as in the States?

Did you travel alone, with friends, with family, or what?

Did you visit people while there?

Do they offer discounts to journalists?

What 3 places would you recommend as "must see"?

I know it's just a stab in the dark, but hopefully someone can help. Thanks!

Was it expensive? Depending on where you go it can be extremely expensive or extremely cheap. When I was in Norway, it was the most expensive part of my trip. They still use the Krone as their national currency. Gas was $6.50 per gallon (much higher than the UK) and a can of 330ml (12 ounce) Coke was $3. Prague, on the other hand, was very inexpensive. A 3 course meal at an authentic Czech restaurant with drinks was only $3.50. They also sell Absinthe there which was cool to finally try. Most of the larger countries in Europe use the Euro as their currency. At the moment, one US dollar = about 82 Euro cents. Things are a little more, but not outrageous.

Where did you go? Russia, Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic, Ireland, Netherlands.

What did you do there? I was doing a 2 month semester abroad program with my school.

What were some of the most difficult adjustments you had to make? Constantly changing hotels and understanding foreign languages.

Was were some of the most enjoyable things? The people were extremely friendly everywhere I went. Also, there is very little coverage of U.S. news and sports, which was a great getaway.

Did the European sunlight assault your albino skin as badly as in the States? I'm from Florida so I didn't have any problems.

Did you travel alone, with friends, with family, or what? Myself, 7 other students, and 2 teachers. However, we had a lot of free time where I traveled to Amsterdam, Prague, and Estonia by myself.

Did you visit people while there? We attended a few colleges and met some of the students.

Do they offer discounts to journalists? No idea.

What 3 places would you recommend as "must see"? Prague: Street Market and the City Center; Amsterdam: Anne Frank House, Canal Tour, Red Light District

I know it's just a stab in the dark, but hopefully someone can help. Thanks!

I'm 23 and this was my first time overseas. As cliche as it sounds, you really do come back with a much broader way of looking at life and the things around you. This was by far the best experience of my life and I can't wait to explore other parts of the world. As a matter of fact, I'm trying to work on getting to Tokyo next year. If you have any other questions, just PM me and I'll be glad to tell you anything I can.[color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered][color=orangered]

meeting new ppl in hostels etc. i love london. i enjoyed working there.

Did the European sunlight assault your albino skin as badly as in the States?

Was it expensive?
It depends, if you stay at REALLY cheap youth hostels and eat REALLY cheap food, not too much. I wanted a culinary experience, so I spent two weeks and spend about $1400 bucks.

Where did you go?
Just France: Paris, the Brittany area in the Northwest, and the island of Corsica.

What did you do there?
Walked around and saw as many sights as I could possibly squeeze in one day. If you go, be sure to bring walking shoes.

What were some of the most difficult adjustments you had to make?
Learning to make my way around without knowing the language. And learning the little mannerisms that are accepted here, but not over there. You can't just walk around like you're in the U.S., there's less paranoia, you don't need to throw your weight around, it's not necessary.

Was were some of the most enjoyable things?
The food. Going to old ruins that seemed to be lifted off a videogame: old castles next to clearest blue beaches.

Did the European sunlight assault your albino skin as badly as in the States?
Rock, dood.

Did you travel alone, with friends, with family, or what?
With my ex-girlfriend, who was living there at the time.

Did you visit people while there?
Other than ex-gf, no. Except maybe the little old lady that let us stay at her place for really cheap in the Corsican city of Bastia.

Do they offer discounts to journalists?
I'm not a journalist, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. Most museums / tourist attractions will give you a discount if you have a college ID (even an expired one, as in my case)

What 3 places would you recommend as "must see"?
All of Paris, especially the Rue Mouffetard, which is awesome for food and drinks, and makes for a really cool night out.

That and the entire island of Corsica is beautiful. As in, "take a picture anywhere and you'll get a postcard" kind of beautiful.

Europe was the birthplace of western civilization. But now all that's left are a few mourners at the funeral.
