Actually putting Apocalypse Now and Space Odyseey in your masterpiece list makes you simple. It's impossible not to see those movies for the first time expecting to watch an American classic. I'm not saying those movies don't deserve their status as classics, but people are puppets and that is a big reason why they are classics.

Happiness is a masterpiece in my opinion.

my favorite Kubrick film is by far Dr. Strangelove though, so that tells you what i look for in film

I agree completely. Kubrik is the most overrated director in movie history. All of his movies suffer from being overlong and overdirected. I'd take Francis Ford Coppola over him any day.

The beginning of 2001 is so ridiculous it makes me want to scream. Fuck that movie in it's entirety.
