I hated Seabiscuit. That movie sucked. Thank God it won't win Best Picture over Lord of the Rings.

Lord of the Rings, Johnny Depp, Ken Watanabe

These are who SHOULD win in my opinion. Depp probably won't win. The rest probably will.

Best Picture award is a joke. LotR and Mystic River have the only right to be there. Seabiscuit was good but its not deserving to be up there... and Master and Commander and Lost In Translation were both borefests in which Japanophiles pissed their pants over.

Oh, and Sean Penn will pull enough votes away from Bill Murray to let Johnny Depp slip in as best leading actor.

Depp was very, very good, but there's no way his relatively unchallenging role displayed better acting than Bill Murray or, from what I've seen, Sean Penn.

I'd still much rather have gay sex with him than the other two, though.

You should check the commentaries (and bonus crap) on Pirates, I gained a major appreciation for Jonny's acting skillz after listening to it.

In America should definitely be in the Best Picture category, along with Best Director and Best Actor.

It should also win Best Original Screenplay. Lost in Translation's script is just not its strong suit. Of course Sofia Coppola will win as a consolation for not winning for direction. I love the Oscars, but that is just how it is.

Also, Johnny Depp will win a la Adrien Brody. Last year Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day Lewis split the vote; this year it's between Bill Murray and Sean Penn.

Did anyone actually see "Mystic River?"

No one's a bigger Penn fan than me (see his brilliant performances in "U Turn" and "Carlito's Way"). However, I felt like he "overacted" a bit in "Mystic River."

Tim Robbins stole the show, and he should win for Best Supporting Actor.

I saw it. I think it is hard to peg the performance as overacting because thankfully, most of us haven't ever had to endure a loss in such a gruesome way.

I also thought Marcia Gay Harden had the best performance in the entire film.

i thought tim robbins was overacting. not sean. if your daughter got killed you would be a maniac. tim just seemed way too stupid.

there's no way johnny will win. as much as i would like to see that acceptance speech.

city of god won't win anything except cinematography.

I certainly would be a maniac. His performance reminded me too much of his performances in other movies, though. Not much original.

Robbins, in my opinion, was a very hurt person. I felt his pain for some reason, much more than Penn's.

I will say Marcia Gay Harden was phenomenal. So was Laura Linney, for her limited role.

Best Picture

Lord of the Rings was the best of the nominated movies. I agree with whomever said that Seabiscuit was good, but not good enough to be considered best picture. Master and Commander was overrated, Mystic River was great (but not as good as LOTR), and Lost In Translation is nothing but a dull, dry-as-a-desert valentine to Tokyo.

Best Actor

I haven't seen House of Sand and Fog, but I'm gonna have to cast a vote for Johnny Depp because the Academy doesn't give well-done comedy roles enough justice. Bill Murray would be my runner-up, even though I didn't much care for Lost In Translation.

Best Actress

I'd give it to Naomi Watts, but it'll go to Charlize Theron, not because her role was any good, but because Hollywood loves it when hot chicks dress down.

Best Director

I love LOTR, but Fernando Merellies should win this.

Johnny Depp deserves the Oscar, it'll be reward for them not giving it to him for Ed Wood. Savvy?
