i've seen it exist through my boss. She's the manager of a tiny retail store, and whenever she's trying to get shit done with upper management people in the mall or the vendors that sell us the crap that we sell, she has to act like 10x stronger than any other man to make headway. When we had a guy working with us, she would have him take care of the phone calls to mall management to make them come fix our shit. he'd only have to call once or twice to getg them to replace something, but she'd have to call repeatedly to get their attention.

This is only in a small little store, so unless in large corporations and such they're really good about compensating for sex discrim, I'd be surprised if it isn't still a problem.

I guess that there still exists the notion that a woman in charge in certain situations is incompetent until proven competent, whereas a man is the reverse. I know it because I myself innerly subscribe to the belief, i think. I think i'm a subconscious mysogynist :/

Women keep each other down as much as men do.

I'm the only girl in my department at work... and no lie... at least 3 times a day, when I answer the phone and say "Internet Technical Support" the person on the other line says "Yeah! Transfer me to Tech Support, will ya?" or the "Yes, I need to speak to a technician please."

I also get it from my coworkers But that's way too much to even go into right now.

Are you sure that it is because you are female? I say this because some people are downright stupid and do not pay attention while on the phone.

i'm terrified to think about my mom or sister being stuck in any situations (car problems, getting lost) i think they can't handle.

i actually phone them when i think about it too much. and, yes, it's because they are women. i'm very protective of the women i love. *shrug*

(p.s. it could be because my sister isn't good at directions or car problems, but i think it's because, i dunno...)

i'm not saying girls can't be vicious and catty. of course they can. but from a social/cultural point of view, it's men that keep up down. when women's only perceived value is her appearance, and she is therefore relegated to the status of accessory/toy, she will often fight tooth and nail just to maintain that. it's sad. it's true that people on the bottom, who should unite to overcome their mutual oppressors, often turn their hate inward and release it upon each other.

thank you for adding this.

aslo, i'd like to reiterate for some people the fact that the fight for equality (for women, for minorites, etc) takes vigilance and maintenance. nothing is ever 'secured' for us...in fact, we often regress. so thinking we've had it made since the 60's really doesn't cut it. a lot of people think this way but won't admit to it.
