In a perfect world, yes- it'd be expected. But in a society where doing what's wrong is often more glamorous, cool, and, sadly, socially accpetable than doing what's right, don't tell me he doesn't deserve praise for it. Look at many of the responses in this thread- "you should've kept it!" or "I'd have returned the wallet but keep the money". Nothing against those folks, it's their choice, but when many of us feel that particular way about this situation, he's all the more deserving of it.

it's this kind of attitude that makes it seem like Toby accomplished something. once again, whether or not it's the norm, doing what's right isn't something worthy of this much praise. he didn't do a good deed that will be affecting several people -- he found a wallet with money in it and returned it, money intact. his actions aren't affecting more than one, possibly two degrees of people. he's not saintly and people shouldn't be pretending he is. he did what's right and that's that. no need to post it on a messageboard.

These are my sentiments exactly. But I want to make it clear that I'm not insulting Toby at all. Again, what he did was quite honorable, and I know when he made this thread it wasn't to show off his charitable deed. But like failure said, too many people wouldn't do what Toby did, and see people who would as being extremely generous. To me, it's nature. I wouldn't think of pocketing the money. Maybe that's just how I was raised.

So put the fire in your pants out, AndySlash because I wasn't coming down on Toby.

bullshit.

i resent nothing. prior to this, i've never given toby a second thought and i doubt i will give him any more credence in the future. this has little to do with him, period; it's about people letting their standards for what is considered the basic niceties of life drop significantly.

Unless it belonged to a minority, they need that money more than I do.
Of course you would keep the cash because you'll never be man enough to actually have a job.

I never said you were. My feeling is/was you didn't need to add the bullshit at the end. It added nothing.
