I agree with that. "The kids look at them as heros" argument always pisses me off. I don't care if they do bad stuff, but if they are breaking the law they should be fired, just like any employee would who broke a rule in their contract.

I don't think that's the point. I think it's more people thinking "here's a Pro Bowl athlete with a multimillion dollar contract. Why in the fuck is he risking that to sell some coke?" Most people would kill to be in his position.

suspension w/o pay sounds like something to me. 4 games, 6 games, and an entire season for 1st, 2nd and 3rd offenses. the NFL has handled steroid use better than any of the other leagues, thus far.

the moral pedastal thing is just one POV. i think the major issue with drug testing is to keep the sport a sport. if there were no drug testing in full contact sports such as football, the majority of players would be taking steroids to up their game and it would really become an unsafe sport & league. both from a down-the-road health perspective, as well as players being stronger and more insane than they should be.

I don't think it's fair for employers can test for drugs because it violates the right to privacy so I wouldn't be in favor of testing NFL players for drugs. It's testing people for crimes they were not caught for, drug testing is almost a big brother law enforcement method.

No one ever ever ever talks about alcoholism and sports. And those two are like peas in a pod.

I've been wanting to say that for the longest time but I didn't know the specifics. This is another example of sppunk making giant assumptions and basing his opinions off that.

The NFL is rife with stories of collegians that were supposed to be awesome but weren't in the NFL because they couldn't take steroids during the season. Tony whatsisface that OL from Michigan State, Eric Flowers (whose dad is in one of my classes), etc. Sure you can bulk up in the offseason but that artificially built mass goes away but quick once you stop using it.

You always fish for me to be wrong, but I agree with guz' posts. The slaps on wrists leagues put on players are so unequal and unfair.
