Smile How do you take screenshots of like dvds & stuff?

Because I just got the White Stripes DVD with the 'Hotel Yorba' video on it & I want to do a 2 block linoleum cut of the part when Meg is laying on the bed with a tambourine in her hand ,but I can't figure out how to get a picture of it?

Any help would be appreciated.
Or we could sit here & talk about fecal matter.

You can press 'printscreen' while watching the DVD and then "Ctrl+V" on any image program.
Or you can get PowerDVD, which has a 'capture' buttom to save images

Doesn't always work, if the DVD program is drawing on a DirectX layer then you'll just get a hole where the image was. You're right about PowerDVD though - apparently WinDVD has the same kind of function, but I've never got it to work

I searched the help file & it simply said to press "P" while watching the dvd & it would capture a bitmap file & store it in a subdirectory on my hard drive but for some reason when I hit "P" it does NOTHING.

p.s. I have WinDVD so I guess I have the same problem as DeviousJ?

NEVERMIND! I got it to work! It was actually working all this time ... stupid windowsXP was just saving it to a folder on my user account rather than the whole computer's hard drive thing. Now I have like 147 bitmaps of the Hotel Yorba video from all those times when I was smashing my "P" button & yelling at my mom "WHY WON'T IT WORK!!!"

Here's the capture I'm going to use for my lino cut. I'm going to do 2 blocks: one for the red pieces & one for the black pieces:

Hmm, do DVD's run smoothly on your computer? I have a 1000 MHZ EverEx computer with 256 MB of RAM, and an AMD Athlon Processor. DVD's always run really choppy on my computer, even when I close almost everything. I've tried using PowerDVD, Windows Media Player, and a DVD Plugin I have for Winamp, and it still runs choppy in all of them. Do you have any suggestions to make it run smoother?

Check DMA is enabled on your DVD drive. (Start>Settings>ControlPanel>System>DVD Drive>Settings (or something))
What kind of graphics card do you have? And I'd recommend getting DVD Genie, it lets you tweak your viewer program

the generic microsoft dvd player that windows comes with "dvd.exe" in your windows folder has a screen capture button already. you don't need any third party special dvd program or anything....

I have a Riva TNT2 (AGP). I looked at the DVD Drive's properties and stuff from the Device Manager, there was no Settings tab, but I looked around all the tabs, and I didn't see anything about DMA.

I didn't know linoleum cuts were like ... unknown? They're like umm.. relief prints! I take a slab of linoleum & cut out everything I want to be white. Then I roll ink over the top of the block & run it through a press with damp paper over the top of it.

Very time consuming

Ok, two things. Firstly, I upgraded from what was basically a GeForce 1 to a GeForce4 MX, and that has a built-in MPEG chip which really helps. The original one was a bit jerky, and I can't see the TNT being any better. If I were you I'd get hold of DVDGenie (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/dvdgenie_download.shtml) which lets you activate a TNT-specific motion compensation thing. That could help. Also, apparently DMA is automatically enabled on XP, but that was apparently the case on my 98 machine (due to the motherboard drivers installed) but I had to remove some to get the option. Actually this is probably getting confusing now. Plus I've never used XP. See if you can find a Disk Cache option, and ramp that up.

Hmm, I got DVD Genie, and set it up to run DVD's through Realplayer (as it and Windows Media Player and Winamp are the only things that will run DVD's, my PowerDVD is all fucked up and keeps asking me for a key, even though mine is a registered copy and I don't remember the key), I saw some stuff about enhancing performance on Rivas and TNTs, etc., but it was on some other player, is there a way that I can set it to use that on Realplayer? Oh and I'm not exactly sure where to look for a Disk Cache option.

ummm nothing like it but ,okay
Linoleum cuts are relief prints. Meaning I have to take tools & gouge areas out of my block of linoleum (or wood).
Silkscreen prints are .... not. They're flat.
