I had this really stale taste in my mouth, so I asked my dad if he had any mints or gum...and all he had was this shit.

In your mockery, you're forgetting the point that CareFree is god-awful.
My mom used to buy it because it didn't have sugar, I think. She gave it to me all the time when I was a small child. I thought it was bad then and my opinion hasn't changed.
