Question I have a question about the fertilization of chicken eggs.

Do the eggs we eat get fertilized?
Do chickens sometimes lay unfertilized eggs? It's all so confusing.

I went to this page... I dunno. I have to leave the lab now, it's closing. So I don't have time to read it... I'll get back to this post at home.

I'm retarded tonight so I have no idea how they lay unfertilized ones. But uh, that usually has little or nothing to do with one's decision not to eat them.

Actually I wonder about this too. If eggs are unfertilized when they're layed, how do they ever get fertilized?

I think it has something to do with some mechanism of the chicken... something like they store the sperm to get them fertalized. Hm. Because I think they only get fucked one time, and they lay a shitload of eggs... huh... I'm still slightly about the whole fucking thing.

OK, here are the facts from someone who has taken embryology.

The eggs we eat are unfertilized. Chickens lay eggs, regardless of their fertilization or not. Most chicken ranches prevent cocks from having access to hens as egg farms are different from meat farms.
That being said, the clear white thing in the albumen is embryonic fluid....if the egg were to be fertilized, it would help attach the fetus to the egg and protect it. the albumen is general fluid. the yolk is the part in which the embryo develops.

If you see a small red line in your yolk, that is a fertilized egg. What you see is a primitive streak, which is a 24-48 hr embryo (essentially it is just one line of blood vessels). at 72 hours, you can actually see a heart beating.

So yeah, if you see what looks like a blood vessel in your yolk don't eat it.

if you think of it, eggs are the grossest thing we eat.

"mmm let me cook up some embryonic fluid!"

ok so what's the step to follow after this.....put it in a bucket with fluffies and pillows so it'll stay warm and hatch and stuff
i've always wanted to do that...........i did that when i was like 11 and the agg wound up falling on the floor and spilling its contents all over the carpet...needless to say my parents werent very happy with my egg hatching experiment

Even I knew that.

But yeah... thanks... um... I need to run to class. But. Before I go, I remember this one time when I cracked open an egg AND I FUCKING SAW A CHICKEN HEAD IN THERE. It was developed enough that I could make out the beak and eye and shape of the head... omg, it was tramatizing. I must have been like 8 or something. : (

I agree it's kind of unsettling, but why is it bad to eat a fertilized egg? We eat fully grown chickens.

Because it's a waste of time for the chicken to fertilize it and then we eat it... it's easier if you let them hatch and let them produce more chicken, or use them for meat... more profitable.

1. I don't understand everything that goes on in the world.
2. I have valid thoughts and questions.
3. Am I always supposed to be right or something?

OK. I should have clarified. For people that DO NOT eat eggs, the fertilization factor has little or nothing to do with it. There.

i suppose it doesn't matter whether or not you eat it in the long run....but i just find it kinda odd.... it makes sense in my head that i wouldn't want to eat a fertilized egg, but i'm not going to justify it b/c there's really not that much difference between that and a chicken breast or an unfertilized egg. maybe i'm just afraid of guzzling chicken sperm or something
