Arrow The Force is on DVD, young Skywalker

but you will not see the Original Editions yet...

----------
All of the unforgettable heroism, villainy and epic adventure of George Lucas's STAR WARS trilogy comes to the ultimate home-entertainment format for the very first time around the world this September from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, ending the wait for the most-anticipated DVD release ever. The four-disc collection will be released on Sept. 21 in the U.S. and Canada, with international release dates following closely.

"We know how long fans have waited for this release and how much they have been looking forward to it, so everyone has been working overtime to make sure that the STAR WARS TRILOGY on DVD is an awesome experience," said Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm Ltd. and the DVD collection's Executive Producer.

The STAR WARS TRILOGY tops the list of "cinephiles' most-requested titles never released on the format," according to a May 2003 E! Online report. Further, the three STAR WARS TRILOGY films -- "Star Wars: A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" -- also hold the top three spots on Amazon.com's "most-requested DVDs" list.

"Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" will be available in a four-disc set that *******s a bonus disc filled with all-new special features -- including the most comprehensive feature-length documentary ever produced about the Star Wars saga and never-before-seen footage from the making of all three films. Each of the three films in the STAR WARS TRILOGY has been digitally restored and re-mastered by THX for superior sound and picture quality.

"First and foremost, the DVDs will deliver the very best possible sound and picture and take advantage of everything the medium can offer. On top of that, we are creating added-value material that gets inside the creation of the Star Wars films in a fresh and fun way," Ward said. "We want watching this DVD collection to be as memorable as seeing the movies for the first time."

The films of the STAR WARS TRILOGY will be available exclusively as a collection and will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX. All three films are closed-captioned and subtitled in English, French and Spanish in the U.S. Internationally, sound and subtitling specifications will vary by territory.

I refuse to buy the special editions. Lucas can fuck himself before I help him to profit off of "Greedo shoots first."

dollars to donuts when Ep. 3 hits DVD a few yrs after that they'll be a full Star Wars box set with all versions on it. Lucas always wanted them in one set.

I refused to get screwed on LOTR and Star Trek and have waited for those. Star Wars I'll happily bend over and have lucas butt-fuck me for cash as much as he wants.

Well if you watch it you can see that Harrison Ford has the ability to turn into a virtual cartoon character when he moves, so it's understandable.

As for Greedo shooting first debate – Lucas has said that Greedo was always supposed to shoot first, personally I think that’s bullshit HOWEVER if you go and dig out that unaltered Original Trilogy VHS that’s gathering dust in the cabinet and fast-forward to that scene you CAN hear two blaster bolts go off – even though you only see one shoot. So you never know he could be telling the truth that’s what he meant.

(anyway, it makes Solo more of a badass if he shoots first and his eventual turn-around in ROTJ more effective)

anyway, I only have 3 real major problems with the SE’s

1) Greedo shooting first in ANH
2) Luke’s scream when he falls away from Vader in ESB
3) the super-lame extended song and dance in Jabbas Palace in ROTJ

that aside, I dig most, if not all of the touch-ups: Cloud City looks really great with the windows in ESB, the Sarlac Pit in ROTJ doesn’t look like a big vagina but has that cool head coming out of it, etc etc.

Don't forget the whole "celebration" at the end and the amazingly technological song the Ewoks play as opposed to the simple one.

Also, remember: When Indiana Jones just shoots the guy with the sword in "Raiders," there was supposed to be a long whip battle but Ford was too sick to do it, so they changed it on the fly and it became one of the most memorable scenes in the film. Should Spielberg then make a CGI Indy whip battle on his DVD? No, of course not. Whether it was scripted or not, there's no reason to change it.

Here's to holding out until ep 3 is released and we get a huge, 82 billion DVD extravaganza of Lucas cumming all over himself about the saga. I'll only crack three of those cases more then twice, and only two more then 4 times, though.

What was the difference between the original and the special edition?

In my opinion the special editions are better because they have better effects and all that stuff. But I'm no huge Jedi worshipping person. I don't care if Greedo shot first. I would buy this (if it's not overpriced).

First of all, it just sounds really fake and not like Mark at all.

The problem is really just the fact that its there. In the original scene in Empire Vader goes “I am your Father … come with me it is the only way” Then Luke jumps. Apparently to his death. He didn’t know he was going to land in the chute thing. The silence during his fall was the most dramatic part of it. He just resigns himself to die because he doesn’t want to live.

Now there’s a scream when he falls. It just makes him seem like a pussy ie. “Arrrrggghhhh!! I’m falling!!” Very cartoony and kills some of the dramatic impact of the scene.

I like the celebration it gives the feeling that its a galatic conflict that came to the end and revisits sites from the trilogy. In the original cut, its only on Endor and you don't get as much a feeling that the galaxy is free from the Empire. This gives it some scope and more impact.

As for the song -- actually the "Yub Yub" tune always bugged the hell out of me because it sounded like the Ewoks were singing "Celebrate the love!! CELEBRATE THE LOVVVVEEEEEE!!!" Ugh.

Indy shooting the swordsman was great. Lucas never really liked it, though, thought it was too brutal. I think he thought that Greedo shooting first was a way to karmically make up for it.
