No. Gay men do not like to be in shape.

Mmm, I think athletes (in major sports at least) are different because of what they are made out to be - the image of the manly-man. It's certainly not the same for an actor to come out. There are plenty of gay actors that have. It's certainly not hurting Ian McKellan's career.

I think athletes are in a more precarious position because of history, perception, and expectation.

On the gay rights and equality side it would be huge if a professional athlete came out of the closet. Sports is kind of the final frontier for gay acceptance because that is an area that is traditionally most hostile and uncomfortable to gays. I would love to see someone from the NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB come out of the closet and see just how mature the sportsgoing public and media is about the issue of sexuality.

I think it would be interesting to see as well.

However, it's easy for us to say that because we're not the person that would have to deal with all of that shit.

I know you're "in" the media, but I don't think people care as much as the media makes it out to be. I don't sit around with my friends wondering if Bartolo Colon is a homosexual when we discuss baseball. The fact is right now it's a slow news period for the baseball beat writers and they're getting something to write about.
OK, I'm in the print media. I haven't seen a story in a legit newspaper about this in a long time. So, I guess we're judging this on ESPN and other Web sites and TV. TV does shove things out there, but they have to because you can immediately change the channel. You get more information by watching Fox News or CNN or MSNBC in 10 minutes than you used to by watching the same network for two solid hours. It's censory overload. Just like this gay athlete shit is. Who cares.

And I agree with ******. But, the same thing goes for any minority. If Chan Ho Park were to somehow have a bad season (LOL!), he's be called a ignorant Vietnam commie. :shurg: People are just retarded about opposing lifestyles/viewpoints.

why do i have to accept gays? i can deal with the issue but acceptance means to condone something and because i do not agree with the lifestyle i will never accept it. it doesn't mean i don't like people who participate in that lifestyle and that i am mean to them but it doesn't mean i accept the lifestyle as a whole and the morals it projects

Tennis players have been openly gay. And millions still play and pay to see those same gay athletes. While tennis is indeed a pussy sport, I don't see how it would be much of a difference.

I don't personally care if an athlete has 14 dicks, so long he can play well and I don't have to see them.

I bet if a player did come out, demand for tickets would sky-rocket. If only for all the people that would want to be there in case something "happened."

You know. Like in case the gay quarter-back's pants rip and he accidentally gives one of his offensive linemen the ol' Liberace.
