arg i'm so bad

I got this info packet from the peace corps telling me what countries I qualify to work in... i haven't even heard of smoe of them

Of the choices they gave (no china or thailand

), Nepal is 1st, but it's a community development/urban planning program and he seems to thin i'd be best at teaching *gulp*.
Then Gabon, which i knew was in africa. Good climate (hot and humid but that's ok cos it means lots of green) and it's a stable country
the kryzyg republic (!) - i had never heard of it

near russia.
and a couple others in the pacific island such as Micronesia and something else.

I'm going to have to be honest with myself here... I looked up Kryzyg republic and i don't know if i'd do well there. so close to a bunch of scary stuff happening.. plus to be honest, i was hoping i'd be able to escape white people for a while by doing this. ah well. i guess i'll keep you guys updated with what happens when I go in for interviews and whatnot. If you care? I dunno.

well, you can look at www.peacecorps.gov , but here's the gist: It was est'd in the 60's. As long as you have a degree you qualify to be sent to another country for 2 years under their supervision doing some kind of work - education, business mang, commun development, health, agr, etc. It's all volunteer but they give you 6k when you get back for a readjustment allowance. They train you in a language and the skill for the country, then you live in the area for the two years and work at whatever it is you do. Since I have a degree in english and no experience in work field, they matched me with those countries that will be able to use me in the enxt couple of years.

oh i haven't joined yet. I'm just applying... they have to interview me and screen me etc and then they tell me where i'd be going for sure and what i'd be doing and i say yea or nay.

Why PC? I guess for a lot of reasons. for personal reasons i feel i twould give me an ultimate confidence boost that i could survive an entire cultural immersion for two years and feel like I did some amount of good in the time I was there. Then when returning i'd have the wisdom and knowledge of a whole other culture to draw from other than my own. I've always wanted to totally live and absorb the essence of another culture... Hopefully, the things i've learned from school and college will be able to help others in ways they wouldn't have learned otherwise.

right, I wouldn't want to be in the area. Way to voliatile to be doing good peaceful work. That's awesome though. You kick ass for having the guts to do that. Think I might join the coast guard or navy after college myself.

I think you should do it, you'll never get the chance again....and you live a really long fucking time. Go for the memories and adventure, don't waste them away working somewhere instead

that's what i'm thinking. I know i want to do something like this... travel extensively etc, so why wait til i'm tied down with marriage and whatnot? And good move for considering going into the military post college. you'll be way up there.
