Exclamation There is a walk-out at my university tomorrow.

My dilemma is: Do I support it and walk out, or should I stay in class?

Apparently, the whole country is doing a SUPPORT BC walkout because our tuition fees are so high.

I did some rough mathematics, and I pay ~$15 per 1.5 hour class I attend (thats the tuition broken into how many days you attend class in a semester). So I therefore would be forfeiting $30 if I joined the walkout, as I would be missing two classes.

Now, is it hypocritical to walk out in favour of lowering (or putting a freeze on) tuition, since you are wasting the money you put into tution by not going to class? Or should I just shut up and walk out?

I say stop complaining until you pay as much as us. Our classes are about $100 each.

Walkouts never accomplish anything except making students feel like they are important.

i remember calculating that each cut class was like wasting $200. walkouts are lame anyways, you don't accomplish anything, and you're missing class, etc.

you aren't paying as much as nova soctian's are. We have the highest tuition in the country. My university is first, followed closely by St. FX, Mount Allison and Dalhousie.
My point is, that you don't have it as bad as you think.

It doesn't hurt to protest.

As of next year, BC will have the highest tuition in the country. SFU will be paying over triple what they were.

Its not the fact that tuition keeps going up. Its just that we had a 4 year freeze or whatever and it went from paying just over 100 dollars to now triple what we used to... in the matter of a year.

If tuition would go up a regular amount per year, we could all budget for the increases. Student loans aren't giving out any more money. I'm sorry I'm not loaded like all the rest of the kids that attend post-secondary institutions, and I have to rely on student loans to put me through.

We are currently paying ~ $300 per class, along with a 40% increase in tuition predicted for next year.

How can they expect anyone to afford a 40% increase?
I suppose we will just have to stick with our 5-7% a year increases.
