Red face So Jaromir Jagr is Ranger now

Now I am really interested if this will help him or his suffering will continue. At least he's got again a chance to make it into play-offs this year.

The Rangers love to sign superstars that are way past their prime:
Wayne Gretzky
Mark Messier (twice!)
Eric Lindros
Jaromir Jagr

Perhaps next season they will attempt to get Gordie Howe back into skates.

Pavel Bure's career also tanked in the Big Apple

he should have stayed with the Canucks. Vancouver's Gay Community will forever miss him !

the rangers didn't bring messier back past his prime twice, just once! the first time he was league mvp and led the team to the stanley cup. kovalev has been worse this season than those listed. i have been a ranger fan since the messier trade fourteen years ago. i totally discounted their chances at the playoffs after their loss to philly thursday. but now i think they will make eighth place in the east. a personality like jagr could be cancerous, but you see the rangers can't get any worse so i don't think this trade can hurt them. bure's career only suffered due to injury. at first he scored like 10 goals in 12 games. the second half of last season he was playing on one leg and i guess he is going to try ang play again next year.

p.s. big party at my place tonite. i have been drinking since noon.

I know this has been said already, but Mark Messier is still kicking ass.

Nevertheless, I also laugh at the fact that the Rangers will still be lucky if they make the playoffs.

It's sad, but you're probably correct. I'd vote for Gordie Howe - this guy could only be a pleasant surprise unlike those other guys.

9-1 for OTT, and Jagr didn't even get a point on his team's goal.

what's that Jagr? oh, you were -2 for the night also? that's a shame.

i just think its funny that the Rangers STILL think the solution to their woes is ANOTHER big name... how has that worked for them the last few years? if i were the rangers gm, i would start dumping lots of the high salary guys for draft picks and start the rebuilding process, much like the penguins are doing right now. trade for prosepcts. look at what the canucks have done int the last 5 years... and the answer wasnt found in signing bure, lindros, jagr, holik, kovalev, carter, gretzky, the list goes on.

As Netphorias resident Ranger fan, I guess I have to say something in this thread. Especially in agreeance with this comment.

I can only agree with pretty much everything that has been said, other than the idea that we will make the playoffs.

It has been a miserable ten years. It's been especially hard seeing my most hated player in the NHL play (or not play) for my team the past few years.

I don't think it's wrong signing excellent players. Rangers are rich as fuck and they can have pretty much every player in the league. I just think they're signing wrong players. I mean most of this big names they already have Stanley Cups, some of them even more than one. And is there any bigger motivaiton to play the league than winning the Cup? No matter what, these guys are satisifed - they don't have any hunger to do more. Show me any of these players who's more for the Cup than Hasek couple of years ago?
And actually, I can't think of any better hockey retirement than playing for Rangers. We're losing, no one wonders, and with so much money....rock on, Rangers, here's to another lost season?

heh, I bet you would have been Mario's bitch as well. Just try to imagine it, you're 18, the walls of your room back home are still decorated with his posters, and suddenly you are RIGHT THERE and that guy's your team captain. But in the first place Paul Coffey took care of him, helping with getting used to live in a completely different place.

You may don't believe me, but the biggest influence on his performance this year is him breaking-off with his girlfriend. I mean he's a very sensitive human being, even though he's not 20 anymore, that thing hurt him very much. I don't know how much open is he towards american press, but he's very open-minded while talking to the czech media. Just days before NHL started this year, he gave an interview to one of the czech newspaper, saying like he can't absolutely concentrate on hockey right now, that he feels like being on completely different place while playing hockey...it's even strange how he was able to make laughs about himself. I mean he knows what's wrong but he's not able to fix it, deal with that.

A propos Metallica - hey he made it even to their studio while they were recording - i think he even got drumsticks from Lars or something like that.

haha, i guess he's one of the persons who are wishing at most it's already right here. Hey, that will be awesome ( imaging Lang, Jagr, Hejduk, Hasek, Havlat etc. playing in our czech league again against each other) - that would totally rock!!

Actually it may be good if Rangers won't make it to the play-offs, since the World Championship takes place here. Everybody's expecting we should win.. having even the name of Jagr in your team, that could be advantage. plus so many people have never seen him playing live ( me *******d). For us it's something like attending a basketball game with Jordan in one of the teams. Things you will never forget, no matter what his actual level of game is.He's already a legend, at least around here.

the fans of new york are too impatient to rebuild. they need to make the playoffs THIS YEAR. you can't do that with draft pics. plus, the rangers farm team is one of the best teams in the ahl and they have lots of talent in their system. the past four games is the first time the rangers have had any real losing streak all season. they just need one good solid stretch of consistant hockey to make the playoffs. also, jagr is the type of player that can make the other players around him better.

and since this basically is the only hockey thread we will have all year i will take this oppurtunity to say something to vancouver hockey fans: quit dissing the messier. you all hate him because linden gave him the captaincy, because he wore number 11 which was never retired by your club, and because he was an advocate of bringing in keenan. just ask markus naslund about messiers influence on many of his teammates. trust me, you would not be experiencing your current successes if it was not for the moose.

Fuuuuuck, that Leetch goal was sweet.

I haven't watched a game in which the Rangers won in over three years.
