How is crew going, other than the fact that you're crippled right now? Are you already competing? Where do you guys practice, in the ocean? I have no idea what West Coast people do.

crew's going okay. We just had a meeting like an hour ago. Our first race is 2/28 in my hometown so i'll have a big fan club. actually most of our races are in sac because it's probably one of the nicest courses on the west coast. I feel bad for not being back out there yet but i think wed i should be okay to go back. i guess they've been having trouble with sub cox's. They snapped the skeg today which is a huge no-no and is something i always watch out for. (skeg=rudder. About the size of a playing card and can easily get caught on the dock when bringing the boat in and out of the water). We row on the petaluma river. it is very cold. I wear sooooo many layers. I'm excited about the san diego crew classic. it's going to be a lot of fun. and uniforms have been ordered. mmmm spandex.

The best of luck to you on your first race. My team always sucked but I read in the student newspaper that they just won a big regatta. It's okay to be on a losing team, but so much more exciting to win at least sometimes.

This is the first year that our university has had a rowing team, so we're pretty much a cool runnings team. we quote that movie all the time, it's like our team story. We have almost no money, 1 coach, and borrowed boats. However, one guy's parents and grandparents just donated money for us to buy two new 8's with oars. I just want to get back out there. they've been eating shore all week with the other coxwains.

Im trying to transfer to Northeastern (boston) next fall. I'm waiting to hear back from the coach. I'm hoping there's money in it somewhere, varsity cox's are hard to find and according to their roster, the women's team only has 2 coxs right now and one of them is a senior so I think I have a good chance of being recruited.

This is awful, but I can't remember which seat I was or what my best time was.

I have a notoriously bad memory and that was five long years ago. I liked it a lot but I just didn't have the study skills and stamina to keep up with my school work while spending so much time at practice and competition. I was so tired all of the time. Add to that the fact that we never won and you have yourself one big quitter. Me.

At my health club we have some rowing machines and I've been thinking (only barely thinking, mind you) that I might start using it again, and if I kept up with it I could stop by the Lincoln Park Lagoon sometime and talk to the folks and see if there are any people who row for fun that I could join. That would be nice. I love the Lagoon because you have the skyline right behind you. I miss the feeling that rowing gave me.
