In this semi-autobiographical tale from director Sheridan ('In the Name of the Father,' 'The Boxer'), grieving parents (Paddy Considine and Samantha Morton) move to New York City with their two daughters, determined to help the father achieve his dream of acting and convinced they can survive the gritty neighborhood around them.

Ha, I was going to make a thread about this.

Seriously, it is one of the absolute best movies of the year. The acting is impeccable--Samantha Morton is particularly brilliant. The couple's two daughters are played by real-life sisters and the movie only benefits from this because their interaction is so natural. It tore my heart out.

Go see it. Now. If you have to drive an hour to find a theatre that is playing it, it's worth it.

It's a good way. I hesitate to call it a feel-good movie because it's not schlocky and overly sentimental and you aren't manipulated into feeling good, and there's a lot of gut-wrenching stuff too. It runs the gamut of emotions.
