That's funny, that was one of the first things I noticed in England when I went over New Years.

I'm not used to waiters in Pizza Hut, though we didn't eat at one. Actually, kidding aside, the tipping in England threw me for a loop. They have something called a VAT (?) which is a heavy tax, like 17.5%, and some establishments (most) ******* service, so they don't expect tip. But it confused me anyway.

And the prices they were charging for a pint at the pub, they don't need damn tips.

VAT is basically sales tax - and you're not really expected to tip in chains, but in other places you usually do. And let me tell you - the bar staff don't exactly get a cut of the beer prices, plus they're working probably the busiest night of the year for not a lot of money. Besides, tip them and they're more likely to remember you next time you fight your way to the bar!

Yea I know, on New Years all we drank was wine and on 21 pound bottles they were getting 30 each time, so they were happy to serve us. Do you live in England?
