Red face 3 days since "WMD Program related activities"

Wow- and Bush was even quoting his report. He also quit today, btw.

In a direct challenge to the Bush administration, which says its invasion of Iraq was justified by the presence of illicit arms, Kay told Reuters in a telephone interview he had concluded there were no Iraqi stockpiles to be found.

"I don't think they existed," Kay said. "What everyone was talking about is stockpiles produced after the end of the last (1991) Gulf War (news - web sites), and I don't think there was a large-scale production program in the nineties," he said.

Though I'm not doubting what he says, why is it that everyone purports Dubya single-handedly deceived the nation when the UN, the inspectors, the international community, Congress and Bush's cabinet knew the weapons were there too? There wasn't much argument about whether the weapons were there, it was more about if we should simply continue inspections to rid Hussein of the WMD's, or go to war (actually, resume war).

The inspections were about checking for weapons, not 'knowing there were weapons around'. At the end of the day, we went to war against international concensus (and international law) for reasons which have been rapidly shown to be insubstantiated. There was apparently intelligence, it had to be done, then we find there wasn't intelligence, it didn't have to be done. I mean some of us were saying this from the beginning but hey. Bush gets singled out because he led the country into war, he was the frontman for the whole operation and he bullshitted his people. He may not have been unilaterally responsible, but he was a key player in the whole deal
