Is posting here more than 3 years considered newbie or old school?

Cool

Hey, forum 9 was never an elite community. It was just a bunch of losers who had enough time on their hands to figure out how to manipulate a ubb addy bar. Then people PAID to get in and it turned into a gongshow. I think this is an attempt to go back to the old forum 9. Let the whackyness begin.

Lucas McDermott used to be one of the highest profile members of the community before he left on his mission. Now he barely even posts. He used to bitch about how shitty the board got and how all the newbies (me, never_nohen, the SL,UTs, Vincent, many others) were taking over. It's a basic fact of internet communities.

Shut up and quit being faggots.
I don't even post under "Amazing Disgrace" anymore. I think it's funny that some other dude posts under that username. You guys seem to like him better than you like me, so it's all good.

The whole Forum 9 thing never made any sense to me. If you want to talk with people closer to you than what the General Chat Board affords you, then you should probably use a phone, or at very least, AIM.

I've been lurking/posting here for since 99 and see if I care about which board is which. I can still observe and smile and be amused regardless of what person is doing it. It won't decrease my enjoyment of this place.

the history:

the whole reason it was considered 1337 was because of the manipulating the address bar as was said. and all it took was noticing that the general chat board was forum 7, and changing it to 9 and noticing it was an open forum that no one new about. then when andrew updated the message board and added new forums, there was no more forum 9, so he or some mod made one and tried their best to give access to those people that had found and posted on the old one. of course the old board was gone so it amounted to guessing and discretely asking, and a few people managed to slide their name in that hadn't posted before. but big deal, we had our forum 9 back anyway.

then andrew needed to raise money for a new server, and while we certainly could have sold access to krazee, selling access to forum 9 seemed more kosher. and for those that don't know, the old skool forum 9 was barely posted on- i mean like 3 threads a day except for the plusones, and the newer one that has twice as many people on it doesnt get that much more attention! my point is a forum 9 or even a new 1337 forum 9 would have no effect on the general chat board.

krazee i only used your name cause your fiasco was around the same time. many netphorians far outrank you in hoedom now

So everyone stumbled upon it with no one telling them the URL or how to find it? I find that quite hard to believe.

It happened.

And either you have an incredible capacity for knowledge, or it's just sad how much you know about/have invested in this board considering you've not been here very long at all.

obviously there was some direct telling of friends and the like, but really not much. mostly it was:

1) people did know about it, it's not like it came out of nowhere. it was one of the leftovers from andrew's "2000 forums in 2000" campaign, the daily news to be specific. think what the war board would be like during peace time. it was really slow and most of the posts were really long idealogical rants and/or arguments (you would have loved it ). anyways, when pakula axed the new boards he didn't do it right and anyone who had made a link right to the daily news board (aka. sorry motherfuckers) found it with ease. also anyone at all ubb-savy might have thought to check the forum ids of the forums andrew was deleting. this explains the initial membership of forum 9. at first, there were multiple unlisted forums (i know 7 and 9 were among them, so it follows that 8 was aswell, but don't quote me on it). andrew eventually caught on to his mistake and properly deleted the misbegotten hell-holes. in the interest of being a cool cat, andrew left one there for those who were having fun with the hidden forums, and a legend was born.

2) it was the days of ubb. we're talking a zero-privacy "who's online" page. we could see the mods posting in the employees lounge and we could see forum9ers at work. since the board was just as slow back then as it is now, it wasn't a huge issue, but a nice few got in like that.

3) there were occasional general chat slips. usually by people who noticed the board via the "who's online" page, then posted "WHAT THE FUCK IS FORUM 9" on the general chat. other times, a member decided to spice things up by outing forum 9 on the gen-chat. these incidents were usually dealt with quickly and before much damage was done.

we managed to maintain a faily exclusive membership for a surprisingly long time with NO security measures whatsoever. they were good times, but eventually everyone and their mom knew about the board and the password was implemented to restore 1337ness. in time, that lost its effectiveness too and forum 9 really sucked for a while. then vbulletin, and it's superior private forum technology came to save the day. then donation reared its ugly head. and that is the end of the tale, there is nothing more to tell.

I did it. Out of boredom. There was also a forum 10, but most people never posted on it.

I don't think it will. I hasn't in the past several years netphoria's been around.

And I think the whole f9 thing is kinda stupid.
