It sounds iffy, but Renee Zellweger has proved herself to be a solid actress, capable of carrying a film or being a supportive character and she doesn't shy away from physical changes or things she hasn't done before, like singing.

Reese Witherspoon playing June Carter Cash is way scarier.

the thing is you just dont get famous actors to play parts like this. you scrap up fucked up nobody's who will seem realistic you dont have to pay them as well and you make them stars. i have the same arguement for why the newer star wars movies sucked, among other things.

I'm always amazed that they can fit Zellwegger's gargantuan face into the camera frame. I don't know if I should credit the director, the FX guys, or the cinematographer, as her ugly mug is just as expansive as any natural setting that can be captured on celluloid.

I liked her in Finding Nemo as the puffer fish, though. It may have been a cameo, but she and her giant fucking face sure made the most of it.

when you think about it as far as hollywood actresses go, not many do the whole de-glamorizing role look that she does and not many can sing well. but janis can still sing 593,203 times better which is why i'm probably gonna cringe. like PFM said, introducing unknowns is the way to go.
