I like how this turned out.

White Stripes VS. Flaming Lips

Although, Wayne from the Lips said the new White Stripes was in his top 10 greatest albums ever, while none of his were.

And, I think they've both been Overly-MEGAhyped, but I like the Lips better.

no oscars for this movie please, but it was good nonetheless

nicole kidman gets on my nerves and renee zellweger was over the top, as usual

however, jude "i'm so beautiful that you can barely look at me" law and jack white were good

so were natalie portman and giovanni ribisi in their limited roles

kidman is overrated as a beauty and as a talent

her feigned southern accent was not believable in cold mountain, whereas jude law's was

i'd take jennifer connelly any day of the week over kidman, both for her beauty and her talent (see, e.g., dark city, the house of sand and fog, and requiem for a dream)

Oh my god, that southern accent was horrible.

What really sums up the movie for me is the scene where Ruby makes fun of all their pretensions--"diamond mines and whatever." Anthony Minghella as a director seems to be way more concerned with ideas and appearances of things than the actual beating heart behind them. The smaller characters were so much more fascinating because they were much less weighted down with the message.
