It's on Love Boat Captain right now.
What kind of music has come of your parents' mid-life crises? My mom usually buys shit like Smash Mouth and the new Santana album. Dad usually goes for primus, and more recently Pearl Jam. He mainly buys old jazz records, though. |

My father loves Depeche Mode (Ultra, Exciter), lately he got into Radiohead. I think his favourite is OK Computer. really. He always enjoys telling me stories how he goes shopping these CDs and the vendors can't believe he really wants HTTT.
His favourite PJ album is Binaural I guess. I am serious. Note: he got me Lost Dogs, too. edit: he finds Primus quite amusing band, too. And I think his middle age crisis is already over - he's over 50. Last edited by RopeyLopey : 12-29-2003 at 01:24 PM. |

my dad can't stand thom's voice. he thinks their later stuff is just a bunch of wankery. i don't blame him for thinking that, though. PJ is much more rooted in the stuff that he grew up with.

My father attended with me Sonic Youth concert in '94. He cites that show as one of his most spectacular experiences in his life - he was pretty much blown away by final Diamond Sea.
Well, I guess partly it's just him, thinking he's not stucked in the music of his youth, that he knows what's going on even now. But you know, most of the time he still listens to Deep Purple. That Riot Act, is it your CD or he got it on his own? |

now my mum's into crap like dido, coldplay, sting and sarah brightman my dad? diana krall, norah jones and flamenco i tried to play some cool stuff for my dad. he liked 'oh my sweet carolina' a lot.

Friend of mine when she visits her parents, quite often she sits down with her dad and her sister and they play together old Dylan songs and Rolling Stones and whatever blues they all know. I find this quite cool - I wish I could do something like that as well - unfortunately my parents don't play any musical instrument at all.

I once left a promo copy of DMX's "Party Up" laying around on the dining room table and my dad took it to his car, where it stayed for a long time. He really liked grunting the chorus and even learned some of the parts of the verses. He really liked to blast it when he would pick me or my brother up in some public place. It was awesome.
Now his heart belongs to Jesus. |

Hm.
My mom enjoys Coldplay and John Mayer. For the most part she just listens to the stuff she listened to when she was in high school and college. My dad doesn't really listen to music. |

My mom's music collection is totally embarassing. She's been obsessed with Donny Osmond (and all of his siblings) her whole life, and she also listens to the Carpenters and shit like that. I think somewhere in her collection I've seen a Wham! record.
My dad doesn't listen to music. At all. |

My father's into the typical 70's (and maybe some 60's) stuff. The Doors, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd are all favorites of his. Nothing really embarrassing there (as PF is even one of my favorite bands). Out of the concerts he's taken me to, he's liked Sonic Youth and Blur (the latter because they remind him of Bowie), and didn't like Flaming Lips but said "they put on a helluva show", which they did. Edit: I forgot that he likes reggae. He saw the Wailers not long ago.
My mother isn't really into music, and while she pretty much liked some select songs off the radio (mainly from Pat Benetar, Queen, Badfinger, Billy Squier, and Def Leppard), she knows all about my musical taste, and seems to enjoy it. She likes listening to my cds in the car, at least. Both of them pretty much hate what I hate (though my mother moreso than my father), which is nice. Last edited by rkjr : 12-30-2003 at 02:35 PM. |

my dad has no interest in music. well, when he had a cassette deck in his truck he would listen to anne murray. my mom listens to the same stuff that every oprah-watching soccer mom would listen to: elton john, celine dion, and barbara steisand.
