Default love/passion

maybe this is too much for netphoria, even after being around for 3 years, i still don't know. reactions/experiences are so varied here (partly why i stick around).

anyways, i was having a discussion with a good friend of mine, and it made me realize that i don't give a fuck about love.

love is just a word people throw around too much. just a cliche. i've been there, i've done that. it's passes like a fad. it grows old, monotonous, and simple boring.

"true love?" it only exists when you're in love, and it either inevitably passes or you die before it does, so there is no true ever-lasting love.

i don't want the comfort of love.

i want passion in my life. i want to live and breath the moment. i want to live every day like a new day. i want the world to open before me. i want life to spread her legs open for me. i want to dream.

fuck finding true love. let the days just roll out before me, and i'll just sit back and watch the tide, and breath in the air, and try to appreciate whatever goes by.

I understand where you're coming from but I do not agree.

Love can be described and found in anything...not just petty romantic relationships.

I broke up with my first boyfriend about 6 months ago. And I still love him and care if he's doing alright. Just because I don't want him in my life that way anymore deosn't mean I don't love him. And I'll always feel that way about him.

That's only one example. But there are so many places in which love can be found, and it doesn't die.

Man. it's way too late and I'm way too depressed to be thinking about this, but I'll try to formulate a response without killing myself or passing out by the end of it.

I like to think that you must learn to please yourself before you can please anyone else. I'm in no kind of mental condition to try and pursue a relationship. It would be awful of me to go into a relationship and bring someone else down like that.

I'd rather be a minimalist rogue and do things by myself, and enjoy life by myself without having anybody else to worry about. But there is a kind of harmony that is exists in a loving relationship that you can get when you're just by yourself. Do you know what I mean?

btw, weren't you in a really great relationship a while ago phaedrus?

hummm...i agree with your very first point. i guess i should have stated which definition of love i was using though. which would just be love between individual people.

this love, (the same you feel for your first boyfriend,) is still something that i don't care to pursue. it's something that will follow me, and doesn't have to be found.

i do believe in what some people would call a "higher love" that IS found all around me, as you suggest. however, i'd call it spirituality. it doesn't come from other people, it comes from life, and freedom, and sheer joy, and our senses, and cause and effect, and coincidence, and an infinite amount of other intangibles in our life. THIS is something i feel is key in our life. it is crucial to finding passion in our every day lives. sadly, i also think it's something that we, as a society, are constantly forgetting about.

i don't know about that. i think you can please someone pretty damn fucking easy without pleasing yourself. you just have to give. in fact, it's actually often the opposite: you give so much to make the other person happy that you end up miserable.
in any case, you have to know yourself so you can learn to please yourself. and you have to know how to please yourself so you can be happy. sadly, i'm not sure how my notions of spirituality fit into all of that. i'm inclined to say that spiritually brings a different kind of happiness - more of an enlightenment - something akin to ideas in eastern philosophies.

i like the last bit there (assuming you meant can't, but actually wrote can). it sounds nice. it makes me want to love. too bad i feel more like the first bit.

yes i was. i'm surprised you remember. i thought i was pretty anonymous here now. thanks for remembering.

anyways, as the relationship progressed, it changed.
i began realizing that it wasn't love that i was in it for. and it wasn't just for the pure physical pleasure either.
either way, the passion died, the love remained, she ended it, she came back, the intensity returned, and then i ended it again.

i'd say that it isn't actually love that you seek. it's just the passion that you have for the idea of love. the idea of love makes you happy, not necessarily love itself.
