There kinda was one: there was X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (which kinda sucked) and X-Wing: Alliance (which I never got into at all). They were puesdo-sequels to X-Wing and Tie Fighter. The mantle for the Star Wars flight sim games has basically been passed onto the "Rouge Squadron" games for Nintendo, which is cool by me, but you could do so much more on the pc.
