What the Hell Should I Buy as a Wedding Gift?

It's for my best friend's sister's wedding.

oh, i just got the invite now and the wedding is on Friday and i was supposed to RSVP by the 10th of this month (of course i knew i was going to the wedding and that it was this friday, but i had no idea i could bring a guest and that my dad and a guest are invited..i thought i was going to be my best friend's date!)
here's hoping the boyfriend can book off work today for this friday.
otherwise i'm going to be dateless

what the hell took her so long to get it to me?
anyway...

i'm totally at odds with what is an appropiate wedding gift.
i wish they registered somewhere, since i am the world's worst gift giver.

I've been to several weddings this year & have another coming up (frankly I'm sick of it) & they all get $100.00 (except a really close friend's upcoming wedding i'll ante up $ 200.00).

Is it sentimental...hell no.
but after being taken to the cleaner by banquet halls, photographers, church, dj, videographer, etc, bs, bs, bs, they sure as heck appreciate a full cashbox more than a 5th set of China or 4th blender !! I know I would.

if you really want to get a 'real' gift I guess you can always waste good money at Bombay Company (get a nice lamp or wine rack).

a gift certificate, it's not a personal like gift, but it is fun to spend!
we had the most fun with the presents which we got more than one of, returned, and went shopping with. those were some of the best gifts! (yeah, it's horrible, but what will one do with two kitchenaid mixers?)

other great presents.. (always ******* the reciept, of course..)

pot and pan set
knives
good blender
nice fluffy big luxury towels
robes
a kitchenaid (pricey..)
set of stove utensles
... you get the idea.. useful things.. everything is appreciated when you're moving in together and don't have all that you need.
