I agree that it may be worthless, but I liked college algebra a lot more than college calculus.

Thumbs up

I'm taking foundations in math in lieu of College Algebra and I find it to be very easy. It's all a bunch of logic questions. The most actual math we have had to do this semester is converting base 10 numbers to base 5 or base 8 numbers.

I've always hated Math through high school, it's not that I couldn't do it, it's just that I could never get enough interest in it to actually care about it and put any effort into it.

Maybe it was just the anti-social math teachers there but I found math through high school was so painstakingly boring and dull not to mention a lot of it was pointless.

I ended up dropping math half way through high school because I just could stand any more, just total complete lack of interest in it.

Here's my college math story:

I can't do any math without a calculator. So my college's entrance exam didn't allow use of any calculators on the math portion.. and I ended up doing bad, and they started me out in Beginning Algebra. That went fine, I didn't really put any effort in the class and got a B.

Then came along Intermediate Algebra, which was actually reasonably hard (harder than algebra 2 in high school anyways).. I have this calculator, a TI-89. it does EVERYTHING. factoring, systems of equations, you name it.. so I used this calculator to just fly through everything & get A's on all my work.

By the end of the semester, the teacher caught on to this.. and told me that I couldn't use that calculator anymore (right before the final exam, of course).. my sister-in-law is a math tutor, so she helped me out, and I ended up acing it anyways.

I then had the same teacher for college algebra, and I said to her "Since I aced the final without a calculator, you know that I know how to do this stuff.. can we just stop wasting my time and let me use this for the class?".. she said OK.. and I got to use my ti-89 for college algebra and it was a breeze

I flew through college algebra. Although in high school it kicked my ass on a daily basis.
