Default Bands that sound like Smashing Pumpkins/influenced by

Another fan/friend (in that order, lol) asked me about this, curious about how far the Pumpkins' influence goes. Here's what I came up with, not counting bands like My Bloody Valentine and the Cure who were first and who SP molded themselves after:
On a scale of one to ten, how much they sound like SP, to ME, and remember, these are just bands that I've heard people compare to SP, valid or not, stupid or not, so don't chew me out:

Placebo-7
*early* Jimmy Eat World-8
Deftones-7
*some* Thursday-6
A Perfect Circle-8 (prolly more with James now in band, ha)
Zwan-9 (obviously)
Abandoned Pools-10, the closest-sounding to SP out there...
Loudermilk-8
Superdrag-7
Earlimart-8 (9 on "We Drink on the Job")
Saves the Day-6

If there are any other extremely Pumpkins like bands out there that I'm missing, let me know. I'm curious. Thanks.

Really? I have the Malkmus solo album, and love it, but I've never listened to much pavement. Guess I have to now. Thanx!

it makes me wonder when the pumpkins' influence will become prevalent in new music.

i mean, hendrix had a definitive style. so did zeppelin. so did the doors. so did the pixies. that why they had the kind of influence that they did. the pumpkins, however, have music the reaches to all ends of the musical spectrum that it's nearly impossible to determine what kind of a definitive style that they had, besides having a frontman with a whiny voice and two big muffed guitars.

who knows. anything that could be considered pumpkins influenced will either be a very cheap knockoff, or end up not sounding like the pumpkins at all.

It says a lot about how diverse and unique they were since they aren’t easily ripped off. There were ripoff Peal Jams and Nirvana’s but you can’t rip off the Pumpkins because they never stayed nailed down to one thing and Corgan’s vocals were so distinct.

That’s why they struck a chord with a lot of the alienated out there – they were unique. Empitiness is lonliness, just like me, etc. etc.

Ok, I tried not to sound too o-boarder there, but hey...

Yeah, I know, it's like everyone who has taken influence from the pumpkins so far has focused on the wussy, emotive side. It'll be interesting to see if anyone picks up influence from the finer points of their more classic-rock driven side. I don't even know what that would sound like, though. Probably not much like the pumpkins. So there you have it.

Chino sings the same style as Corgan. Not that it's an influence in the real sense, but if he listed to the pumpkins it could be a sub-conscious thing. So yes, there are hints.. But the deftones definitely have crafted their own thing.

But then again, most major influenced bands have hints of other bands within them.

Yeah Bulfinch will sound like that. I'll cover Cherub Rock and make it a Communist Anthem.

What was that band that pretty much directly copied SP? They even had a song called Silverfunk or something like that. I remember reading about them on Luna, like 5 years ago.

Anyone know?

I think that there are more bands than we realize that are influenced by the Pumpkins...it's just that they have such an original sound, it's really obvious most of the time when people are trying to sound like them, so most bands do their own thing.
