Default Go Green!

Editorial Endorsement for Governor – Rahul Mahajan, Green Party

In light of the mud-slinging frenzy we’ve seen in the race for Governor of Texas, it won’t be surprising if less college students vote in this years’ gubernatorial elections than ever. We also bet that the patriotic swell since 9/11 won’t be enough to propel many college students to the polls next month and overcome the bad taste we have for dirty, political doublespeak campaigns.

But being sick and tired, of being sick and tired, is no excuse not to vote.

The real issue here is not an apathetic generation’s civic disengagement, but one of unaccountable corporations and politicians. Sanchez has spent more than any non-presidential candidate in history on this campaign. But, hey, when you can drop a cool million to pay federal fines, money is obviously not a problem. And Perry has enough skeletons in his closet to effectively rule out his taking the ethical high road with Sanchez. Frankly, the childish name-calling and finger pointing in this race insults the intelligence of all Texans.

Because we think that having more options is the only way that the voices of young Americans will ever be truly heard, we endorse Rahul Mahajan, the Green Party candidate for Texas Governor. Mahajan is a 39-year-old author and antiwar activist who has worked on a wide variety of issues, including alternative media, South Asian issues, affirmative action on the University of Texas campus, and Enron, but has concentrated on antiwar and anti-corporate-globalization work. And he has taken no corporate money for his campaign.

The Green Party platform, just like the Republican and Democratic ones, is not perfect. Undoubtedly, it was impossible to expect that a single political party could represent the diverse values of an entire editorial staff. Why, then, do we expect that merely two political options could accommodate the values and needs of an entire nation?

Mahajan says his goal is to broaden the range of debate in this election and force Perry and Sanchez to tackle issues. That is good enough for us. A vote for Raul Mahajan is exactly the opposite of “throwing it away”: it is a loud and clear message for change. And, we agree with Thomas Jefferson, that, “a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing.”

It's written more anti-Republican and anti-Democratic candidates than it is pro-Green Party.

That party's just another wastefull attempt at gathering momentum for a third party to rise up. They've gotten too wrapped up on the drugs policies and socialist behavior. We just want to make a point that there need to be more options, and he's a decent start.

Plus, it'll piss off the ultra-conservative facutly at the University, which is always fun.

Is this an attempt at humor. I was LMFAO when you all the sudden jump from bashing the other two candidates to saying we need to throw our support behind a "39 year old author and anti-war activitst...."

I don't claim to be a Texas political expert, but something tells me this guy is not a mainstream candidate there. DUH!

More satire than humor. And he's not "mainstream", but he's third in the polls. He's not the viable third party option, but this year the other two candidates have painted themselves into a corner with punching bags, and decided just to know the crap out of each other.

But he, you said you're no expert. Like we need that Obvious Guy statement.

Hey doesn't it violate some sort of journalistic credo to use contractions in a newspaper editorial?

After all you are the guy who was ripping Rhino because his paper contained alleged misinformation in its masthead.

Anyway, since you broght up Obvious Guy, he also says: That editorial will influence all of 1 student at your school to vote Green.

That'd be one too many boss.

Um, credo? You know nothing about journalism apparently. They must not teach you how to write in Georigia Tech, go figure.

Misinformation is different than a false credo you speak of. Again, you have no clue what you're speaking of, so I'd appreciate it if you NOT RUING MY THREAD YOU JERK!

1 person? Well, that'll be one person for the wiser then. It's not necessarily my point to persuade people to run out and vote Green, but rather to question the obvious choices and evaluate their own political stances. That's what's the point on an editorial. OH BY THE WAY, AN EDITORIAL IS NOT THE ONES WITH PICTURES!!!!!

Besides, how can anyone on this board take you seriously. You have your dick hanging out of your pants?????

No, not at Tech. They just taught me how to be an anti-social engineer. Good times.

I like that second paragraph of your resopnse. It is very respectable. I admire your desires.

That is not my dick by the way. It's the dick of some dude on a website with my head super-imposed on it.

my thoughts exactly.

But yeah, go ahead and vote for your green party... and siphon votes away from Sanchez. I'm not pro-republican, but I want Perry to win anyway.

He's much nicer to look at.
