i guess its coming out on Nov. 11th. is anyone gonna buy this or even care?? i was never a big nirvana fan so i will not. i just cant believe that bitch sold the rights to all of his writings. anything for a dollar i guess...how sad.
. . . Rights to publish the diaries of late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain were purchased on Wednesday (02.27.02) for a rumored $4 million. After what was anticipated to be a heavy bidding war, the diaries, making up a total of 23 books or 800 pages were quickly sold to Riverhead Books, a division of Penguin Putnam. According to various press reports, plans had been underway for several months to publish Cobain's writings, who had been known to have kept extensive diaries throughout his life, some of which were quoted in a new biography by Charles R. Cross titled "Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain". Permission to access and publish the diary excerpts were granted by Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, much to the dismay of many Nirvana fans. Love in recent months has been in and out of court in an effort to gain control of all Nirvana assets, including rights to all of the band's music, facing an onslaught of criticism by the press, Nirvana fans, as well as the remaining band members (see Courtney Love Sues For Rights To Nirvana Material). Courtney Love's manager, Jim Barber speaking with MTV News commented: "There were several who could have done a good job. Of the 11 publishers I met with, nine thought this was the most amazing thing they had ever seen, and two or three of those stepped up and saw what it could do. This is mostly about finding it a good home. Anyone who's involved in Kurt's career has to be excited and enthusiastic to work with him, to spread the word about his life and music. That's a big deal." Courtney Love has also reported future plans for an exhibition of Kurt Cobain's non musical material in London. Meanwhile, remaining Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl continue to fight for control of their music. Kurt Cobain's diaries are expected to be published sometime near the end of this year.

They said that the diaries were being released in the Observer on Sunday and I forgot all about it... I take it this must just have been the same exerpts that are in Heavier Than Heaven? Or maybe they are going to continue it for 800 weeks or something? :/ |
