Thumbs down These fucking internet recipe sites.

You look for recipes for bread dough, and people post things to add to packaged bread mixes for a bread maker. Why are these people so fucking lazy? Bread's not that hard to make from scratch. If I was going to use a bread maker, I'd just save my time and eliminate the process altogether and buy some fucking bread at Shnuck's.

And wtf is up with Wolfgang Puck measuring flour out in pounds?!

he's trying to be fancy

i fucking hate when chefs or whoever make up all these fancy names for things that are so obviously BASIC FUCKING THINGS. Or they give really disgusting combinations some exotic name so people eat it. Because they think it's classy to eat disgusting shit with fancy names. Not all chefs do this. But the ones that do are so stupidly pretentious.

i have some good bread recipes if you want some. and THE MOST DELICIOUS RICOTTA CHEESE CAKE RECIPE ON EARTH.

are you looking for regular white bread or sourdough or what? i also have a nice sourdough recipe. kypper made some regular bread last week and we still have some left over and it's SO GOOD. homemade bread is wonderful. i wish he had the flour they use in europe. europe has the nicest fucking bread and you just can't emulate it here.

some older European recipes ask for things in grams. you can buy a little baking scale. I have no idea where they sell them, because the one we had is from the 70's or something. The only time I ever used it was to make a clafoutis (measuring the flour, from some old french cookbook), and I just ended up amending the recipe to accomodate for cups.

I wanted to make wheat bread, but all I've got to work with is regular flour, so I'll have to settle for white bread, unless I can find a recipe for focaccia, which was the reason I was looking through internet recipe sites in the first place.

I think I'll stick with my old-skool Betty Crocker cookbook. It's from the fifties and falling apart. It's not really mine, but my roommate's--the bitch one with the yuppie boyfriend. She always eats everything I cook (she ate a fucking [i]plate and a half[i] of the oatmeal cookies I made yesterday afternoon), so I figure it's only fair for me to use her cookbooks. Besides, she never uses them.

At least Betty Crocker isn't a pretentious fuck like Wolfgang Puck.

I swear to god that is the most hilarious and the saddest thing I have ever read.

You should see Barfy. He's handing there on the fan, his head down and his limp little tail hanging sadly next to his velcro feet.

*sigh* I love him.

I'm really trying to get a lot of stuff cooked/baked and stored up this weekend for one of my roommates, Sharol...she's got two things on her shelf in the cupboard: those crunchy things you put on chow mein, and a jar of peanut butter. She doesn't have much money and she's in school constantly, and studying whenever she's home. I feel all guilty b/c I'm home constantly and have all this time on my hands, and she's helped me out so much since I moved here that I want to help her out some. So I'm cooking some real food for her, so she doesn't have to buy those Hamburger Helper shit meals she's been living off of.

I know she'll get some food at her parents' because she went home for the weekend, but I know it probably won't be anything substantial...

yeah, Wolfgang Fuck is pretty pretentious.

old cookbooks are the best.

And roommates *barring our current one* suck when it comes to cooking. At least mine did. My old old roommate cooked once in a blue moon, and ate out almost every day, but the kitched was always a fucking disaster. I always had to clean it wheni wanted to cook. she'd let shit rot in her blender and let her grill sit on the side of the wall for months before cleaning it. ugh.

It doesn't help when my other roommate eats everything, however.

that's nice of you to bake all of that stuff for your friend. She'll really appreciate it. Living off of hamburger helper...yes, she'll appreciate it.
