So far for me the story of this album is texture that keeps luring me back in to explore the surroundings of the little hooks that get lodged in my brain. Dopamine and Wrath and Anno Satanas. There are a lot of guileful little hooks and themes in those tracks that get lodged in the brain more than any SP since golden era, probably
Run2me u seem to like the album, ha?
Lots of things to listen to

snare sound on shiny 1 -> 2 is like the inverse of the grandiosity from SD -> MCIS

If he used acoustic on all tracks, I assume they were triggering drum samples In post, rather than live? Anyway, this seems like a bit of a strange experiment to make your acoustic sound like a Roland kit.

It's actually kind of crazy to go back and listen to some of the Teargarden stuff (and yes, earlier poster was right-- EASILY the worst thing he has ever done; even Monuments is clearly better and that album is straight bullshit) and see how cheap and lame the synths sound. Same with Oceania. There's a type of song that he has been trying to write for over ten years now and it's generally terrible (Run2Me is the poster child of this song type) and Cyr is honestly the album where he figures out how that type of song works. I never thought I'd want an album like that, but now that it's here, I'll probably return to it more frequently than any other post 2000 Billy material.

it would have been better if it was 12 or 13 songs long but i've only listened to the whole thing once so what do i know

I can't even listen all the way through some of these songs and they're all less than 4 minutes long.

If this was some kind of genre exercise and it was 8 songs, I'd probably be more interested, but I find any differences between the songs are minimal.

He should have gone even weirder and goofier I think.

I got 5 songs in and gave up. Not offensively bad exactly, but it just sounds like a lot of really uninspiring nothing. I’d put it on par with cotillions in that way, which I also couldn’t get through. It’s significantly worse than Shiny 1 but from what I heard still not as bad as Teargarden. It might be slightly edged out by Monuments, making it the second worst LP by the band

the 8 or so pre-release songs were like little but very loud warnings of "don't listen to this album, don't listen to this album" & i thank the group for this consideration

Too bad because the second half of the album has the strongest and most interesting songs and I'm not talking about tyger, tyger. I enjoy the album as a whole but the second half without a doubt gives off the most sp1 vibes. The first half sounds like sp2,3,4+ and future embrace.

With all due respect, I don't thing you can fairly appreciate an album or a song by giving it only one listen. Your not a musician are you?

what do you think, brother ya5h, is purp blood the best song on cyr, best tsp song, or best song of all time?

It's one of the best off CYR. None of these are in my top ten maybe could change. Like I said before I think it's a very interesting album. Creative no doubt. 10-12 songs it would of been even stronger. But I don't care at this point about a perfectly picked song selection on an album. Im a sp fan so I want every song they can throw at me. Plus you/we are going to get our Mellon Colllie 2 or Machina 3 say maybe we should just take this for what it is. I personally like this band because they do what they want and take risks. You can't say that about many bands. I'd rather this than a band like ac/cd where every album sounds exact the same even with two different singers.

Purple Blood and Telegenix sound like they could be off a lost album from 98-99. I think Telegenix has the best Chorus and melody. Both give me a similar feeling of unrest and sadness with glimpses of pure beauty.

It's a totally different album with headphones. There's a lot more going on than what's on the surface. Starcraft and adrenaline are better than I thought. (I'm sick of spelling them the BC way)

Birch Grove been in my head the most today. Damn that’s a powerful song if u let the meanings of the words in your heart

There’s some pain and true emotion on this, that’s what i think saves it from being yet another big willie misadventure. This is a legit SP album, and a good one

Is it on par with golden era? Of course not. But these are essentially different people, a lifetime removed from those days. We still have the warmth of By Starlight live in ‘96 to fuel that nostalgic comfort feeling forevermore. Meanwhile we have this weird new growth, which is pretty exciting

I love Birch Grove! I have a friend that's a casual fan that likes disarm because of Billy's raw emotion in that song so I told him to check out Birch Grove because of how stripped down and straight forward and emotional the vocal and lyrics are.

Apparently we're listening to the album at the same time lol. While I was driving today I really started appreciating that song. She really helps make this album something more memorable.

I foreseen a time without me
So not unlike the trees
I've stood for so long
So long
Shading life inside the falling rain
All alone, in love with age and someone
Someone else
Sundays come and Sundays flee
Sundays wed, won't you stand with me?
Not someone
Not someone else
My seedlings grow and grow
And home is whatever ground they hold
Shading life inside the falling rain
All alone, in love with age and someone
Someone else
But I've grown stronger
As someone
As someone, as someone else
Shading life inside the falling rain
All alone, in love with age and someone
Someone else
Sundays come and Sundays flee
Sundays wed, won't you stand with me?
Not someone
Not someone else
As my seedlings grow, and grow
Towards someone
Towards someone else
The birch grove stands for us
