about cyr: i keep wondering if there's something srsly wrong with me. every time i listen to songs from it i keep thinking i will wake up and realize that it all blows. but i never happens. i like even the cringy stuff.

i was driving this evening to get takeout and my wife came along and i played some of cry, and she said that of all the pumpkins music she's heard me listen to over the years, this is by far the one she'd prefer to have on. she said that musically, it's the closest thing to what she'd listen to on her own.

for what it's worth, she does not listen to lyrics very much, it's all about what's happening musically for her

i still think it's pretty lame but there are some listenable songs on it

That’s really the thing for me. The dropped consonants/shaky vibrato. Sounding like he’s queasy and holding back throwing up. If he just sang without trying to pretend like he can sing “professionally,” it would sound way more sincere and earnest. He’s never had a good singing voice—but at least back in the day it would sound endearing. Now it sounds cringe and incoherent.

Take songs like Blank, or Shame, or Stumbeline, or To Forgive. He could totally sing all those today, as there aren’t any crazy screaming parts, etc. Pretty straight forward, chill. But if he were to do then today, shit—you wouldn’t be able to understand half of the words, because of his crap new singing style.

I’ve just assumed it’s a tick be developed from trying to “improve” his singing over time, and it got out of control, and he can’t get rid of it.

We assume the recent releases are about Bill wanting to indulge and service his ego and prove he can go head to head with his peers, but the motivation might be more monetary... with the length of this album and the length of Cotillions, and both indulging in a plethora of generic cliches, although new ground for the Pumpkins, I wonder if these releases are intended to literally showcase Billy's versatility as a producer for any prospective clients? As in he can do country, and he can do indie synth pop...

The pink haze vinyl is pretty rare at 2000 copies. It was a bit pricey, but a cool vinyl to have, at least until the next sp album comes out. Its too bad my new apartment sucks for listening to music without headphones.
