I'll still throw on Zeitgeist or Oceania once in a while. In my book, medicore isn't a code-word for shit, I just consider those to be overall average albums, pretty well the epitome of a 5/10 or 6/10, whereas I'd call virtually everything from the initial run 8.5-10. And it's allright to have the urge to listen to average music every once in a while if the band means something to you, IMO

Tolerable? Wow..... yeah the sp has become a tolerable middleclass rock/pop combo ....the biggest failure was releasing zeitgeist...which was one of the worst comeback albums ever..... with zeitgeist they lost more fans/ casual listeners than they could gain with thelast 3 albums

I think the biggest problem is not Billy's songwriting but production. He wrote good songs that either didn't get recorded or got ruined in studio.

Yup his vocal style and the production turned to shit around the same time.

I agree with the vocals and the production..... the vibrato is unbearable

Definitely the vocal style and production affect the overall results, but the songs themselves just aren't that strong.

I will listen to everything Billy releases probably until forever, but certainly it seems a case of diminishing returns, and the best case in the last decade is that there's some tracks that I won't skip if they come up on the shuffle.

It's like the Pixies - people seem to get so angry that the last couple of albums aren't as good as Doolittle - well no shit, they don't have Kim Deal, and there is zero chance they'll ever do anything like that again. I still enjoy the band enough that I enjoy listening to the new stuff, but am I excited about it? No.

Hell no it's like the Pixies. They still put out cool albums with awesome songs here and there.

Billy puts out turdacious albums with mediocre songs here and there.

At SPs lowest points I've been able to tell myself "at least it's not as bad as modern Pixies".

The latest Pixies album was arguably better than Trompe le Monde. Plus even at their worst they sound more or less like Doolittle-era Pixies.

Smashing Pumpkins haven’t sounded like peak Pumpkins (SD/MCIS) on record in over 20 years.

the latest pixies album was so bad that I can only conclude that it's a foreign intelligence "psy-op" experiment to help determine the cracking point of the average person when their quality of life is eroded.

Pixies have become as unimportant in the world of music as sp.

I listened to anaise; pomp and run2me yesterday and was really surprised how someone can think that such shit can even make it on an album.

It is cringeworthy...

Reminder you’re posting this shit on a Smashing Pumpkins forum.

The latest Pixies album has some great tracks and is solid from beginning to end. Are you sure you’re not confusing it with the one before?

Yeah I just checked Beneath the Eyrie.

Graveyard Hill & Catfish Kate are decent singles.
The 6-track run of Silver Bullet - Daniel Boone is quintessential Pixies.

It blows away anything Bill has put out SP2 onwards.

Thumbs up

Yeah Daniel Boone is excellent. Really dig Long Rider too.

Santiago's guitar work has aged like a fine dad.

My dad says Pixies is a satanic band for total losers and that the only reason they’re so popular is b/c so many horny boys bought their album so they could jackbate to the bare boobies on the cover

I give a wet fart on pixies too....kompletter scheiss....

Belzebub should' ve asked himaelf: where is my mind when releasing bullshit like anaise, pomp, or run2me......
They still might get little attention in the usa, but honestly europe doesnt give a shit about the sp........ the last song i heard on alternative radio was " stand inside...." and that was last year.

Daniel Boone is a top-tier Pixies track.

It’s a good record. Unlucky.

Way back in the day everyone that knew I was into Nirvana and SP would recommend The Pixies. They would say shit like "that's where the loud/quiet dynamic of alternative rock comes from." I remember watching Fight Club and hearing their track in that movie. I really loved it and finally caved in and went down the rabbit hole of their discography. I can't for the life of me figure out how the hell The Pixies sound anything remotely like Nirvana or SP. They're music is atrocious and akin to something like surf rock than grunge. I'll tell you exactly what they remind me of and maybe they did influence this: those little filler music pieces n children's TV shows back in the 90's.
