drum wise, I don't like how JC uses really dark, dry cymbals lately. and if the production is shitty a la Solara I'd be pissed. Also, I've read a billion interviews about his philosophy behind replaying old songs: *what am i doing? am i playing a perfect recreation or just what's in my soul now?* etc etc. Basically I'd imagine the Tristessa intro would be different

Def Lepard and a bunch of the hair metal bands have done the same thing. It's simply so the bands can own the recording rights of the music... I've never seen the approach work. No matter how faithful these artists can cover their own songs, they just lack the nostalgic appreciation from the masses.

Like take this, it's a pretty spot on rendition, but it never picked up any traction. The fans prefer the original



A lot of musicians get absolutely pillaged by their record label/managers. They're desperate to sign these deals initially cause they're dumb kids, hungry to make it and then when they score a massive hit, they get butthurt cause they're only getting a sliver of the pie. Take the band Skid Row. They had a number one record and the biggest radio hits and they were flat broke, same thing happened with Goo Goo Dolls. For Taylor Swift, it doesn't seem to me to be that big of a deal though, seeing as how she rakes in the cash live.
