It’s not bad, but he probably should do this instead of SP.

Definitely some strong material here, but overall should've been cut in half. Most of the second half is pretty forgettable and are just echoes of ideas he'd already fleshed out in the first half.

Overall, though... kinda impressed. To Scatter One's Own (that reverby western guitar lead is rad), Fragile, The Spark and Colloseum are the best sounding songs he's laid down since Zwan.

SP for the past several years has really just been the William Patrick Corgan (WPC) show + Jeff + Linda Strawberry. That's a fact. It's not The Smashing Pumpkins from the 90s that we all knew and loved.

Pitchfork (6.4/10)

These four are just the ones listed at Metacritic (68/100):

The concept of ‘Cottilions’ definitely deserves some applause. It’s a big, brave project for anyone to take on, and rather than disappoint or fail, it impresses, and in some places, it shines.

Consequence of Sound
Dec 3, 2019
67
Corgan delivers some of the lightest, most affecting songs he’s made in years. Unfortunately, comfort also breeds indulgence, which leaves Cotillions’ 37 excellent minutes of music rattling around within an unearned 61-minute runtime that winds up walking the record in circles.

Pitchfork
Dec 3, 2019

For all its surface simplicity, Cotillions is saddled with its own peculiar Corganian paradox: the lightest, breeziest songs of his career add up to a demanding slog of a record.

New Musical Express (NME)
Dec 3, 2019
60
The record is most effective at its most gentle and sparse, his voice given room to breathe. Where the lyrics becomes too grandiose, words clash with the folky style, leading to abrupt jarrs in pace and direction. Yet, as with most of Corgan’s solo projects to date, there are still plenty of moments of beauty here.

He looked to the ground, i intervened, lifting his chin up by my fingertips, he felt my hand and smirked, kissing my hand as i pulled it away, then he began to recite the regestration number of the van "4T5Y82", he said it over and over....i began clicking my finger in time, Jimmy looked at me with some trepidation, I told him it was okay and to trust me, he kept repeating the same refrain "4T5Y82", I chuckled and Jimmy let out a wry grin out the side of his persed lips....he then sprang into action, getting behind the drum kit and shouting the reg number aloud, with a snare and kick drum taking turns to represent the reg, i applauded and grabbed a mic, shouting the refrain with him, saliva guzzling from my mouth and sliding down the mic, such was the intensity with which we shared this moment
go on
