I thought 'Chrysanthemum' was just a marketing ploy for Madam ZooZoo's.

Thanks for the Pielachtal Festivalgelaende one!! I hadn't heard that and it's got good separation of the guitars so you can hear Pajo and Matt.

I was thinking there were soundboards of the 2001 shows available.

EDIT: Ooops no I've heard the Pielachtal Festivalgelaende boot. It's a good one.

I've been listening to the late 2001 Zwan shows. 18 years ago.

Fuck me, William, what were you doing canning all these songs?

Girl with the Cruel Face.... played twice. It needed condensing down to 5-7mins in the studio, but it's the opener of one of the best albums he never put out.

Just played twice and dropped.

It was my favorite song from the jump at the Zwan glass house show in Pomona. I just hate every version I had my hands on had annoying fan boy screaming in it. But those were truly good ole days those first Zwan shows..

Yeah, I've collected every bootleg of Chrysanthemum looking for the best balance between instruments. Matt's playing something different to Billy but all the guitars are mush. I'd love to hear the soundboards from these shows. You know Billy has 'em.

I can't fathom being so mad/tired of somebody to where I'd leave a last show after that many years together and not want some closure myself.

Also, fwiw, we only know Bollys side of the story. For all we know Bill might have said something insulting to James or caused him to leave like that. Bills not the most easy person to get along with. Which is why they may have made amends recently once James explained the situation. Hypothetically if Billy said to James before the last show, “calm down James they’re not here to see you, they’re here to see me” which I could totally see BC saying in his snarky joking way, I would leave with out saying goodbye too..

I always thought the energy of this band was exceptional.

I think the music gave Billy a better vocal range, too, and he didn't do that post 2003 shit where he just sings the vowel sounds in the lyrics.

Paz is so hot.

This was a great show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeqaZ00f3jA

I always thought it was a tribute to beloved actor Max Wright, who played the father on ALF for four brutal seasons

Chrysanthemum is the only Billy-written song I can think of that I heavily dislike, yet fans seem to love it. I just haven't seen what's so good about it. I'm all for me being in the minority, so I don't want to crap all over it or anything. But it really was one of my least favorite songs of that entire era.

is zwan the start of billy using the throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks approach to making albums? just writing and writing and writing. zwan recorded, like, what? 60 songs in 2 years? that's insane. just work until there's something to hang onto, don't just write every day until you have enough songs to go through and cherrypick some for an album. and i don;t mean polish them off in the studio. should've asked pajo, he would know.

Chrysanthemum is a decent poppy rocker but reminds me a lot of that song Speed from the MCIS sessions.

This sheds major light on a majorly difficult to understand saga from American TV history, as well as American alt-rock history. James does seem like the kind of guy that would have been MAJORLY into Alf.

Also, in related news... glad James came back from the dark side or he would have been driven to hard drugs and whoredoms much like our friend Max CLEARLY was, if this YouTube video that I just stumbled across is any indicator:

Also, EXCELLENT music choice for a video that is wholly radically depressing at spots:
