Yeah, my fav's Lebowski, and Fargo's hard to put in second place (or third), but Fink takes first for me.

i saw the happytime murders at my friend's house and it was very entertaining. not "good" but it was funny, and the originality/novelty was good

Yes. I am glad you liked them. I think he's fantastic.
So, Barton Fink. I've only watched it once, a long time ago, but I was really struck by it. The whole thing has a very weird, uncanny, surreal atmosphere, which really fits the theme of going mad. And things happen that make no sense whatsoever. And then that end, with everything burning: s e n e s c e n c e. That's why I'd put Fink over Fargo, even though I know everyone will disagree with me. |

I also saw it as the descent into madness. Other people insist on the religious themes, but isn't religion madness??????? Anyways, I just didn't care much about the characters or the plot, they are all kind of douchebags in some way, except the secretary, then she gets killed, I guess that's the message. Los Angeles is hell and people are horrible there. Those who aren't get killed. |

Saw Ma on Friday
i've liked most of the Blumhouse shit i've seen but I have to say, for a film that went on so much about its "big twist" in facebook campaigns and whatnot, it sure didn't have a big twist! |

i also need to rewatch Barton but i felt like its portrayal of "LA madness" or what have you was practically on par with something like Mulholland Drive in its combination of intensity & sheer enjoyability/"oddball" humor, unexpected turns and whatnot. The Coens are a bit more prone to humor (intentional humor, at least) than Lynch and to be honest I feel like I laugh a lot more when it's used in a non-comedy such as this one. Don't get me wrong, I love Lebowski, but something about seeing Turturro & Goodman's characters amidst this sort of drama is fantastically hilarious. or maybe i was just "high" last time I watched

For me one of the best things about Barton Fink is the insufferable piousness of the protagonist re art and creativity. If u know any “art is suffering” types in your life, it’s kinda delicious to watch the inevitable downfall of this particular sort of narcissism

i need to rewatch barton fink
fargo went up another notch when i read the screenplay and re-watched it for a screenwriting class...I guess barton fink might be the same. fargo withstands a lot of scrutiny and is one of my favourite films of all time, so barton fink being better is a troubling call for me |

YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE — a lovely bit of unrelenting dread
I don't wanna give it a letter grade because it's, I don't know, not the kind of thing you enjoy so much as you just experience and endure it, but man, it was well done MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO — anime is not my thing, but this was super cool, A+ |

the only scutiny i've really seen Fargo under was from my cousins who pretty much shit on anything Coen bros that isn't Lebowski. i mean, aside from people taking issue with them having claimed it was "based on a true story" or wahtever. have i been living a lie?

Good movie. They could've shaved 20-30 minutes off of it though. |

SUSPIRIA (2018): I didn't really get this thematically as I was watching, but now that I've read some analysis, I feel a little dumb. C when watching, B in retrospect.
ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE: a bit too rote, devoid of personality, and light on jokes for me; my favorite part was the end credits song. B. |

I really liked this too. What did you think of the ending? I didn't mind it but the final scene maybe felt unnecessary to me? I'm not sure if it contributed anything new. There was also a moment a bit earlier that I felt would have been a perfect ending for me and I was a little disappointed when it didn't stop there
