Thumbs down

They will be recording again at The Village in L.A.. With Howard, The Bearbelly.

The infrastructure around the Shangri-La in Malibu is too much destroyed after the big fire for any old and good vibe...

Howard is a better producer than Rick. The guitar and drum sounds on MtaE were great and better than SosB, whether you like the songs or not is a different matter.

I do believe the main amps he's been using in the studio since MTAE have been the Laney Supergroup for sick Iommi toanz and a Selmer Treble N Bass 50 MKII (drum + fife)

the first SP song i was completely indifferent to was Untitled, produced by Howard Willing. it was claimed to be supposed to sound like classic SP. and since then all work with Howard Willing seems to have been pretty meh.

If he’s planning Zwan for 2019, then we must be getting Machina in the first half of 2019, right? They’re recording the additional material pretty quickly.

They may book the Village in January again, to do additions to some Machina tracks.

And record eight new songs for the Vol. 2 of the not so shiny album series, from the demos, Billy and Jimmy checked a week ago. It's funny, how Corgan told, to write new material for the next SP album this winter and suddenly there are already demo tapes of new songs. Looks, as if he's only recycling old material...

You probably missed what he actually said. They are going thru the material they wrote for Vol 1. They have full demos but also riffs and ideas they could use now. In addition to that, they will write new music as well.

That's the same process for every album they wrote since Gish.

The tracks Corgan mentioned before were the other eight tracks from the sessions last January.
Which could at least have inspired him, to tell already, that the Vol. 2 of the album will also have eight tracks.

And had only "Solara" been recycled from the "Day For Night" recordings...?

Solara has grown on me, especially with all of the other tracks on the album being so musically pedestrian. If it's true that Solara was written a while back, while the rest of the material is more current, I'm not optimistic about what the future holds. Maybe one of his many project ideas could ******* making studio recordings of stuff that has only ever been played live. There's good material in his back catalog, just sitting on the table.

He actually said they have 60+ songs/riffs/ideas they worked on during the process for Vol 1.

The bigger the number, the more disappointing, considering the grade of songwriting presented in the latest work. Are we to assume this was the cream of the crop? How many four chord progressions can a person have up their sleeve, anyway?

It sort of reminds me of Transformer, which isn't good, but it isn't bad.

I know this has been discussed before but how come you like SP so much but then are weary of these 'easy' chord progressions? I mean there's this thing called prog rock where they get outgunned in that department by and large

The instrumentation sounds generic and bland, the simplistic chord changes are just a symptom of that fact, as well some other features people have noted, such as no guitar solos and shorter run times. Some pop rock bands are that way from day one, but Billy has consistently delivered better. AFAIK this was the chief complaint about MtaE, this album is clearly even worse in that respect. It tells me that people weren't really being honest about either their dislike of that album, or their appreciation of this one.

why would we assume that when bill has been pocketing the best songs and releasing the weaker ones since Machina

also, just stating 'this is clearly worse' is not an opinion, it's missing 'imho'
